In 2077, Rey is a Corpo who has to go to the annual Militech holiday gala, where Militech pretends to care about the citizens of Night City. It’s a formality, and she doesn’t expect to see the motorcycle-riding, mysterious former Nomad whom she’s worked with once before in attendance. But she doesn’t mind going home with him.

Robby makes a small noise behind his teeth. Then he unzips the hoodie, shrugs out of it in that absent, practised way he has with kit and moral limits, and drapes it around Whitaker’s shoulders in a single, unarguable movement. The heat of it embarrasses Whitaker – it’s the narrowness of the interval between Robby’s body and his – somewhere between intimacy and loan agreement.
