Summary
She didn't even realize she was in love with him until they were looking at each other across the courtroom. She was standing next to the broken pieces of the door she'd kicked in and he was the only person in the courtroom not hiding under the furniture, although his eyebrows were raised just a little bit over the top of his sunglasses. She had handcuff keys in her hand and then he said, "About time your burnt ass woke up," and it hit her like a gut shot.
She hadn't thought much about him since she got out of prison, partly because she'd been too busy going from problem to problem to spare the time, and partly because she'd just assumed… well, it was Johnny. Water was wet, the sky was blue, and Johnny didn't need to be worried about. She'd expected that either he had all his shit handled and a lot of cops were dead, or he was dead and had taken a lot of cops with him.

There's something weird about Beacon Hills that Stiles can't quite put his finger on. The way everyone in town knows his name the day he arrives. The way they insist the melancholic howling that echoes through the forest every night is just a dog. The way his dad denies getting a dog, even though Stiles comes home to find one sprawled across his bed, some big black thing whose eyes gleam red in the right light. The way that massive oak tree out in the woods vibrates under his touch, pulsing with sickly life.
There's something weird going on in this town, and Stiles is determined to get to the bottom of it.
