So, suffice to say, New Year's kisses were dumb and Merlin wasn't partaking this year. He was over it.
They brought nothing but trouble.
And then Morgana introduced him to her quite handsome half-brother, Arthur Pendragon, and well… perhaps he had been a bit too rash to abstain from the New Year’s kiss, after all. Maybe one last shot wasn’t worth too much trouble.

Merlin's always been unlucky when it comes to love, especially with the infamous New Year's kiss. He's decided against New Year's kisses--hellbent on having a normal New Year's Eve for once--when he meets Arthur Pendragon and decides maybe he'll take a chance on one last guy.
The only catch? Arthur wants to kiss someone else.
But with some luck and a little bit of fate, he might have a chance after all and perhaps, Merlin can be lucky in love just this one time.
