In his boisterous youth, winter had a way of driving Arthur near to insanity as the biting cold turned the training grounds inhospitable for activity. Servants hurried between alcoves and lords cosied up with their bedwarmers, reluctant to part from their comforts. Arthur himself never had one; he never quite liked the idea of another person in his bedchambers.
Now, slipping under the covers sleep-warmed by his consort, Arthur can admit to himself in the privacy of his mind that there was always merit to a distinctly human bedwarmer.

“Your what now?!” Merlin blurted out wide-eyed. Surely he couldn't have heard that right.
But Arthur was unfazed by his apparent confusion and promptly planted a kiss on his lips as if it was the most natural thing in the world for him to do.
Merlin accidentally stumbles into a timeline where Arthur seems to think he is his lover, and a very affectionate one at that. Now he just has to figure out how he got there, how can he get back to his own time and why Arthur keeps thinking about poetry.
But little does he know that in this world he is a noble too and they are to be married within a month...
Or: Arthur is not emotionally constipated and Merlin doesn’t know how to deal with that.

Between Arthur's duties as king, the diplomatic visitors to the castle, the yearly tournament at Camelot, and Merlin's obligations as Court Sorcerer, Arthur does not remember when he last had time to spend with Merlin. Now, a visiting nobel seems to have set his eyes on his Court Sorcerer. And to top it all off, this nobel is showering Merlin with trinkets?! Since when does Merlin like overly ornate jewlery anyway?
Not to be outdone, Arthur goes on a mission to find the perfect wooing gifts.
Meanwhile, Merlin is working on a month-long protection ritual for which he has to continuously wear an annoyingly heavy, intricate torque and golden bracelets, mutter spells from dawn till dusk, and place runes in strategic spots throughout town. He can't wait for this to be over. Also: What's with all these baubles that keep showing up in his chambers? He hasn't felt any dark magic, but who knows, maybe he better talk to Gaius.

It began as a small cough and Arthur thought nothing of it…not until Merlin was finally named Court Sorcerer, his new robes blue with butterflies around the trim- the same butterflies he always loved to conjure- and Merlin was standing there giving Arthur the happiest smile he’d ever seen on the man…That night, with Arthur’s heart at its fullest, he began coughing up blue flower petals.

Last time I saw you, you didn't want to listen, you wanted me gone. So I was. What do you want now?" his voice is so drained so tired so- oh, Arthur truly hates himself that moment. All of his past anger and hurt rips away from his body in a flash. How could he do this? How could he push him away? How could he- It's Merlin for Gods' sake. He could put a sword in him and Arthur would be glad he died in Merlin's arms.
Or, after Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic, he does what he thinks to be right and banishes Merlin from Camelot.
