Annabeth wasn’t sure what had woken her, but she was awake now, her eyes blinking slowly as she adjusted to the dim light. The room was warm, wrapped in the kind of stillness that only existed between the hours of midnight and morning.
She felt Percy behind her before she even moved. His arm was draped over her waist, his body pressed along the length of hers, steady and familiar. His breath ghosted against the back of her neck, slow and even. He was deep in sleep, but even then, he held her like he always did—like he couldn’t bear to let go.
Annabeth swallowed, a soft warmth curling in her chest.

rachel caught glimpses of it in the smallest things.
the way her expression softened whenever her phone buzzed, her lips pressing together like she was fighting back a smile. the way she laughed, not just small chuckles but real, unrestrained laughter that made her eyes crinkle at the corners.
the way annabeth’s fingers absently brushed over the bead on her camp necklace—the one percy had given her, a token of a promise neither of them had ever needed to say out loud.

He was dancing with Annabeth on Mount Olympus and everything that had happened in the last week was still being processed in his head.
Making conversation with Annabeth had never been hard, but there was silence between them now. The silence wasn’t bad, just quiet. The music in the background made up for it though.
“So… we’re matching now,” Percy comments, looking up at the grey streaks in her braids. The shade of grey matches Annabeth’s eyes, he thinks to himself.
“Yeah, we are,” Annabeth says back slowly. She touches the grey streak in his hair again.
“...Did it hurt to hold up the sky for so long?”
She sighs a little, “Of course it did, Seaweed Brain.”
