There’s a buzzing in his ears and a humming in his chest and an itch under his skin; this is an affliction he has dealt with for years but today it is louder, stronger, more; this is the price he must pay for the gift he has been given, the gift he never asked for.
Stick called it a gift. Matt doesn't always agree.

He did that little helpless smile she remembered him doing when she was angry at him. She hated that she still remembered the differences between his smiles. “You could. It wouldn’t be very nice.”
“You died, Murdock, and then you came back and you didn’t even call. I think we’re past being nice.”
