Summary
They had a system.
The lights stayed off. They were there, in case of emergencies or guests, but outside of those extenuating circumstances, they never turned on. On especially dark or cloudy nights, Kris cracked a glowstick and circled it around their wrist when they walked into the kitchen around 4:00 AM to make coffee after giving up on sleep for the night. Sometimes, the smell drew it out of its room; she'd come grab a cup, and they'd sip the hot, bitter liquid together in silent camaraderie. Usually, Kris drank the small pot alone.
...
It feels selfish, like some violation of the silent pact they’ve made with themself, with Dess. An unspoken agreement to fade quietly from this world, to break away in little pieces over time, make their peace and let the others make theirs.
...
They are warm. A hand on their wrist. Breath on their shoulder. Snores shaking the floor. They are comfortable, and safe, and loved, and somehow this is worse. Because the warmth isn't theirs in the same way the screams weren't theirs; because Kris is a quiet thing, a cold thing, and the pain belongs to them but the fire does not.(i.e. Kris and Dess are forced out of their downward spirals and learn to be loved.)

Summary
Noelle angles her head to follow Susie's gaze over to the the perforated picnic table where Kris is no longer folded over and slumped like forgotten laundry. It's empty.
She has a sixth sense of sorts that exists specifically for Kris. Kris has always been odd, and maybe it's because of that others haven't been able to distinguish Kris-typical strangeness from what they've started to become. But Noelle can. That's precisely the reason that she can tell something's been off about them for awhile now.
And that's precisely why even while her head was furrowed against the softness where Susie's beating heart pulsed frantically into her ear, all she could hear was the intense rattling of the ferris wheel shaking.
Susie and Noelle find that they lose their footing without their third wheel.

Summary
If things had taken a slightly different route, Noelle might have given them a smile. But it didn't, so she didn't.
---
The Noelle from before wouldn't have done that, I'm sure. I mean, she wouldn't have made one of her only friends go out cold, that's for sure. She wouldn't have said that she was going to see her dad, and not even popped in to say hi to him.Bookmarked by inkmothwitch

Summary
Kris Dreemur… is not a good person.
They aren't kind. They aren't nice.
People whisper all things about them.
And yet… why are they here, back at the Flower Shop?
Is it guilt? The want to do something right?
Nonetheless, they enter the Flower King with the hope to fix what was broken and to take care of some flowers.
(Kris attempts to take care of the abandoned flowers, which will now wither without Asgore’s help. Whether they are actually successful or not is dependent on how you interpret the take care part.)

Summary
When Dess threw the keys through their window they picked them up and let the sharp edge bite into their fingers. She entered, cocky and proud, already flipping to a pre-written page of her notebook: Want to get out of this fucking town?
“How long?” Their voice croaked.
She shrugged, flipped to the next page, where she’d already written, ‘til I come up with a better idea.
They stood. Slipped their phone into their pocket, picked a random assortment of clothing off their floor, and placed their hand into hers. She fizzed against them. Some sort of excitement. It was a sound they’d never heard from her before.
When she led them out the window they didn’t even think to look back.
(After the end of the world, Kris and Dess go on a road trip.)

Summary
It's not December Holiday. It's Dess. She's only ever wanted to be Dess.
(On growing up in a small and stuffy town, lacking the language for what it is that makes the world so wrong, when you know you're the only one right. Maybe Dess just has to hit everything harder. If she hits it first, it can't hit back. If she drowns it all out, she won't ever drown at all.
She is so, so tired, of people she doesn't even like calling her December.)
