Summary
Jack Abbot is two beers and a bourbon into the evening, pleasantly warm but not actually drunk. He thinks if he was drunk, he’d write this whole conversation off as an elaborate hallucination. Chucking a handful of mixed nuts into his mouth, he’s still not entirely sold on it not being some sex-deprived, testosterone-fueled fantasy his mind has cooked up after a full dose of trazodone.
Apparently, Samira Mohan is a virgin.
++
Samira doesn't want to finish out her residency still a virgin. She asks Jack Abbot to help. There are to be no feelings involved.

“But this?” he reiterates, looking down at her phone, “This has to end here. I don’t want you to contact him again.”
The skin of her bottom lip took the blow of his words. She felt herself shaking, breathing in and smelling the lingering cologne on her clothes.
“Andrew.”

Summary
The first thing that Samira says to Abbot when she first sees him at the conference meet-and-greet drinks is, unfortunately, “Please be my boyfriend.”
To his credit, Abbot’s expression barely changes. He just watches her, like he’s waiting for the rest of it to make sense, which, fair.
“Please pretend to be my boyfriend,” Samira amends, very aware that she sounds like she’s about six years old and on a school playground.

Summary
“I promise I’m not stalking you,” Samira says straight away, without even knowing she was going to.
Abbot raises his eyebrows and says, “I didn’t think you were, especially considering that we arrived after you both times.”
So he’d noticed, Samira thinks, and then tries to not think it.
