“Step into the booth, Danny. You don’t need to say any prayers or anything, you can just talk.” Armand placed his hand on Daniel’s back, leading him to the confession booth. Daniel stepped inside and snickered, waiting for Armand to take his seat on the other side.
“Well I might as well commit to it, shouldn’t I?” Daniel said, hearing Armand’s soft chuckle on the other side of the booth. “Well go for it then, Lamb.”
Daniel took a deep breath before beginning, rubbing his hands together.
“Well, forgive me Father. It has been…” Daniel paused. “What, like 15 years since my last confession.” Daniel laughed, feeling a flush rise across his cheeks as he spoke.
“Nothing wrong with that, Danny. We all falter in our fate.” Daniel could almost hear Armand’s smile as he spoke, comforted by the thought. “Go on, I’m not getting any younger.” He said firmly, followed by a soft laugh."
~~When Daniel is stuck sleeping on a bench outside a cathedral, he is shocked that the priest inside is so hospitable. Even if Father Armand leads him to the confessional for some unconventional 'self reflection.'

They haven’t talked much, not really. Not about the important things - the things that come after “it was not my love for Louis, but it was love” and “I want to be your maker” - the things that Daniel, to be quite honest, would rather never look too closely at. He knows, somewhere down in the place where he maybe once had a soul, that he should be frightened of what comes next. He’s not human anymore, but there in his chest lingers that little wriggling worm of doubt, whispering to him in the quiet moments: What do you think will happen if you go down this road? Nothing good comes from courting the devil.

Daniel Molloy is losing his mind. There's no other explanation for the near-constant feeling of being followed, the paranoia, and the ever-present flashbacks to an interview he has no evidence of ever conducting. Unless he really is being stalked by some sort of supernatural entity.

The man crumpled up the paper in his hand rather dramatically. He met his eyes. Daniel didn’t expect to feel a strange rush when he did, but his unnaturally amber eyes stared into him in a way Daniel hadn’t expected. He had never seen eyes like his before, so captivating and piercing. After a few seconds of silence, Daniel realised the Frenchman was waiting for him to speak.
