“What are you drinking?” Nigel asked, a little louder this time. He felt his annoyance untwist into something a bit softer as he watched the kid sweat in the heat of too many bodies marinating in one spot.
“I’m not drinking,” the kid managed, fingers tapping out a staccato rhythm on the bar. And then he hurried to add, like Nigel was going to judge him for drinking in a fucking bar, “I don’t drink.”
Nigel eyed the kid’s heaving chest. “How about a water?”
Post-Canon for both universes, Adam and Nigel meet in a bar in California, and Nigel is unfortunately unaware of the abusive relationship Adam is stuck in. He won’t remain unaware for long, though.

Summary
The first time Hannibal Lecter saw Will Graham was in the middle of spring, April 3rd, 1978. Hannibal remembered seeing Matron usher another kid inside the orphanage: unruly curls sticking out from his head, cheeks round, an innocent facade. Hannibal thought he’d be just like the other kids—shallow, boring, simple. Nothing more than another story of parents abandoning a child they found annoying and unwanted.
But no. How mistaken he had been.
