Summary
Theodore Nott has always lived by plans, not risks. Study hard, keep quiet, stay alive. It repeated like a mantra in his head. But the war is over and the wizarding world has no place for the Nott heir trying to make amends. University becomes his salvation. Four years later, he's on track to graduate when he takes one last chance at a study-abroad program in New Orleans. Now he's in a new city, with a new life, and he's taken a risk for once in his careful existence.
Harry Potter stopped planning years ago. The auror program broke him, the wizarding world demanded too much, and the voices of the dead have always been too loud to ignore. In New Orleans, he found freedom and purpose running Beyond the Black Veil, a small shop where he has remade himself as a medium, helping the living speak with the dead in a city where magic and morality blurs. He had no interest in the world he left behind.
Until Theo walks through his door.
Neither expected their paths to collide. Neither expects that grief might be the bridge between them. And neither expects that sometimes, when life and death are balanced just right, love can be a risk worth taking.
Sometimes your past catches up to you.

Summary
Instead of causing a hurricane in the Atlantic, Percy kneels beside his fireplace, and scrapes the carefully-selected cheeses, pomegranates, figs, and other assorted fruits into the flames. He bows his head as smoke begins to billow, clasps his hands together, and prays.
Eros, he prays. I have an offer for you, if you're interested. But I think you will be.
That's all it takes, before Percy feels an uncharacteristic brush of wind against the skin of his neck, and a pulse of heat, near his couch.
"I must say," a low, sultry voice says from behind him. It's almost purring, and maybe it's an effect of the god's aura, his domains, but it sends a shiver across Percy's skin nonetheless. "I didn't expect such a delicious offering from Perseus Jackson."
Or: Apollo dumps him in favor of a pretty celebrity, and Percy is both petty and very pissed-off. Instead of taking the high road, Percy does the one thing he knows would bother Apollo most: become Eros's new paramour.
Except maybe he was a little too impulsive — because what was a way to get back at Apollo becomes a surprise sweeter than expected, and Apollo isn’t as over him as Percy thought.

Summary
Shinobi have few boundaries. The nature of their work is often the unpleasant tasks all other warriors refuse. Missions, however? Missions are essential. A shinobi breaking their word deliberately while completing a mission contract is tantamount to social suicide. No contact wants to hire a shinobi clan who breaks their agreements frivolously. A clan's reputation is all that stands between them and starvation.
If Tobirama accepts, he must escort Izuna safely to the Uchiha.
or: The shinobi world is filled with callous human cruelty. Tobirama, in a moment of weakness, finds empathy for the enemy.

Summary
Even at the moment of the hiraishin's conception, Tobirama knew the dangers of meddling with the very threads that make up the fabric of existence. He knew that repeated usage only made it easier to traverse between the dimensions because the user became physically more susceptible to slipping through the cracks.
But knowing something is possible theoretically is very different from experiencing it for himself.
