Summary
Trucy searches his face. It’s true that since she’s arrived, Apollo has seemed brighter; stronger, healthier, smiling and self-assured. But here on the mountain, surrounded by the crickets and the foolish moths and Datz’s struggling herb garden, he just looks tired. And sure, it’s 1AM, but it seems deeper than that—a bone-deep sort of tiredness she recognizes from last Christmas, when Apollo was sickly and depressed and barely able to get out of bed.
Some things never leave you. Trucy knows that well; there’s a hole in her own heart that she hasn’t ever been able to fill, no matter how much she tries.

Summary
Clay is reminded, not for the first time, that Apollo might very well be the bravest person Clay has met. He tells him so, and Apollo tilts his head, with one hand still holding tight to Clay for support but the other trailing back and forth in the water curiously.
"What, don't believe me?"
Apollo huffs. "It's not that. You're just being corny."
"Baby, I was born on the cob," Clay says, to which Apollo responds by splashing water at him—a cruel and unfair punishment, given that Clay's too worried about scaring him to retaliate.
Clay takes Apollo to the lake. For once, everything is fine.

A young god with his father’s wrath and his mother’s impetuousness, fuelled by his grandmother’s calculated spite. He thinks of the swathes of dead that disembark Charon’s ferry still shivering and huddled together as though their shades could hold warmth.
Perhaps the Zagreus who has grown up with cold eternal is as icy and cruel as Demeter herself. Perhaps he will bring nothing but strife. Olympian history is full of sons overthrowing their fathers, after all.
