    Night clung to the treetops like a shroud as the world burned below them.

    Hiccup ran.

    His boots hammered against the packed dirt, each stride kicking up ash that clung to his legs and smeared across the hardened leather of his armor. The ground trembled under his feet, whether from the heat or his speed, it was impossible to tell. Firelight painted the angles of his face in sharp oranges and violent reds, but nothing softened him. Every line, every muscle, every breath spoke of someone carved by survival.

Toothless didn’t know important human things like how to fix someone who was broken. When a dragon was broken they were trapped and died, because it took a lot to hurt a dragon badly but once they were hurt there was nothing anyone could do for them."
