“Hey!” He calls, jogging through the shallows. “Hey, are you alright?”
There’s no response, and Shang Qinghua is starting to think he might be in deeper shit than he had initially thought.
Vaguely lamenting his stress free day off, Shang Qinghua draws close, as another wave breaks over the person in the water with enough force to roll them—him—over.
Shang Qinghua’s jog slows to a standstill.
“You have got to be kidding me.”
A merman washes up on shore, injured and near death. Shang Qinghua does the right thing; he turns around and marches himself home, pretending he saw nothing, because he doesn’t need this right now.Yeah, right.

Summary
The thought had been niggling at the back of his mind quite a bit lately. He wasn’t showing Shang Qinghua proper obeisance, was he? They’d grown so comfortable in their roles - Mobei-Jun as Shang Qinghua’s king, and Shang Qinghua as his dutiful servant - that they hadn’t thought to… stop. It was how it had always been. But things were different, now, weren’t they? They’d been different for a long time now. To ignore that wasn’t proper.
That stops now, Mobei-Jun decides. His ancestors would be rolling in their graves to see him ignore the proper rites of courtship - the fact that he and Shang Qinghua were already mated besides. He was not raised to be some kind of country rube, as much as being sequestered so far up north might imply otherwise. Shang Qinghua was his partner, and, with all factors properly calculated, the more powerful of the two. It was only proper that Mobei-Jun display an appropriate level of submission to his better.

Mobei-Jun realizes with increasing clarity that he wants to serve Shang Qinghua. Shang Qinghua does NOT pick up on it.

“Your timing certainly is impeccable, my lord,” Wei Wuxian groans, rubbing his back. “What brings you here for the second time in as many nights…?”
“I left my cloak,” Mobei-Jun says, shooting Wei-Wuxian a dirty look as the bird demon shrugs his robe back on.
“You certainly did!” Shang Qinghua exclaims, crossing his arms quite crossly. “You can’t just leave your things everywhere, my king!”
Mobei-Jun’s hard stare refocuses on Shang Qinghua, and he can’t help but shrink back, hurriedly rummaging around in his qiankun pouch for the offending garment. As soon as Shang Qinghua finds it, Mobei-Jun takes it from his hands and throws it over his shoulders, breathing in a deep sigh as if it relieved him to have it there again. If you miss it so much, why did you even leave it behind?! Shang Qinghua almost wants to say, but he is quite fond of his head, actually, and would rather Mobei-Jun not take it off his shoulders, thankyouverymuch.

Shang Qinghua is tasked with escorting the leader of the Yiling Carrion Tribe to Gusu, and it'd be fine if only Mobei-Jun would stop poking his (gorgeous, beautiful, drop-dead handsome) head in!

"Now," the guy barked out, and Xiang Fei could do nothing but yelp and follow after him, thoroughly confused by the way the afternoon was going on. What the hell?
Xiang Fei gets roped into spending the holidays at a ski resort with the Shens and gets bullied by a mysterious—but very hot—ski instructor, in that order.
Well. It could be worse.
