"Hendricks has worn the same bright smile since he retrieved Fetch from Sheertop, and the strain of it is starting to show. The crinkling skin around his eyes reads as crow’s feet now, a heaviness belying his age even through the veneer of perennial Elvish youth. Fetch churns. He can’t even fucking smile at me anymore."
Fetch was apprehended and imprisoned by the Opus before he could reveal the location of the sacred river to the Humanitarian Army. Now he and Hendricks are on vacation, and Hendricks keeps acting like nothing is wrong.

A lot of other people have written incredible, beautiful works about Flint supporting Silver in the wake of Madi's supposed death, and how that support finally brings them together. This is the opposite of that.
