Summary
Delloso de la Rue and Captain K. P. Hob, in the forest together: the first time that someone has wanted Hob for himself and not what he might do for them, the first time that someone has touched Rue in millennia. At the Hunt, Rue sought connection with Hob, and discovered that they could no longer lie to themselves about who they were and what they wanted; Hob sought the truth from Rue, and found something far greater than his mission. At the Hunt, they were able to recognize something like hunger in each other. For the first time, these fey — who have lived only for duty — experienced desire; yet desire went unfulfilled. Rue could not reveal their deception, and if Hob grew close he would catch them in their lie. Hob chooses honor, allowing Rue to put up walls between them, unable to accept their forgiveness and sure that he has only caused them harm.
The following day, Rue burned the letter that might have served as a confession, a chance at happiness, but their oldest and dearest friend has promised to assist them in all things. This time, Wuvvy does not break her promise.

Summary
Tis the season where fey courts come together to present their most eligible young folk, to arrange marriages for love and political gain.
Delloso de la Rue has done everything in their limited power to delay coming out, but the Court of Wonder is no longer having it. It is their year.
They find themself named the diamond, and they swiftly become a representation of only the least desirable qualities. Cold, and difficult to obtain. To make matters worse, they are not allowed to dance, as it could lead to their secret -one kept so carefully, for years on end- being revealed.
Rue is the diamond set above all others, at the edge of the dancefloor looking in, unable to truly join their peers. At the margins, they find themself forging connections with unexpected fey, and the wish they never thought they’d get, a love match, comes seemingly within reach.
With Captain K. P. Hob, Rue feels comfortable, safe, valued, and warm. It’s true love, and they know it. Now, they have only to find a way to be together, despite feuding courts and the long years of planning from the Chorus of Wonder. It will take a brave act or two for Rue to get their wish, but they've never been so determined.
