Summary
When he gets close enough, Chris can see that the paper he is clutching in his tiny hands is a card. A really badly coloured card, with a stick figure drawing of a woman and a much smaller figure with blond hair.
Oh.
Chris gets it before Theo even says the words.
“Mrs. Tina said it’s mother’s day on Sunday. We made cards,” Theo explains, his voice lacking the usual enthusiasm.
Chris has no idea what to say. He might relate, but that only makes it worse because he knows that there isn’t a thing you can say to make a child feel better after losing a parent. It just sucks, and there is no real fix for it.OR,
With Mother's Day coming up, Theo misses his mom. Chris knows a thing or two about that. -

Summary
When the doors open, she is instantly relieved to see a familiar face. She even manages a small smile at her former colleague. “Eddie, hey—”
The smile instantly drops from her face as she fully takes him in. His brow is lowered and his eyes narrowed, and he is slightly hunched over with his hands clutching his side. His bloody hands.
She rushes to him just as the elevator doors close behind them. “What happened?” she asks, letting him lean on her for support.
“There’s… a shooter,” Eddie says.
No no no no no no.
Not him too.OR, May rushes to the hospital when her mom gets shot and finds Eddie bleeding out in the elevator.

“I hate him,” Eddie replies without missing a beat.
Buck thinks he might be exaggerating a little. “Don’t lie.”
“I’m not lying.”
“Eddie.”
“Okay, fine,” he sighs. When he speaks again, it sounds like it pains him to admit every word. “I don’t hate him. He seems nice. Good in the field too.”
Okay. That’s fine. Buck can deal with that.
“Still doesn’t mean I want to work with him,” Eddie adds before Buck can start spiraling.
“Why not?”
“Because he isn’t you.”OR

Summary
Buck doesn’t usually hide things like this from him. They have never exactly been the best communicators, but they always work it out eventually. They figure out what the other needs, and they get through it together.
The problem is that Eddie can’t think. He can’t put his own feelings aside to focus on what Buck needs. He can’t work around his own anxiety over having almost lost someone he loves again. And not just anyone—Buck. His best friend. Whom he loves more than anyone in this world, save for Chris. Who has changed his life in so many ways and made Eddie feel loved in a way he never has before. Eddie can’t be sure Buck reciprocates his feelings since he didn’t get the chance to bring it up on their way home, but whether Buck loves him romantically or platonically, Eddie knows that love is unconditional. And thinking he had lost that, lost Buck… Eddie can’t get that panic out of his mind.OR
After he got kidnapped, Buck insists he is fine and pulls away from Eddie. Eddie refuses to let him do it. -

“Friends, exactly! It’s not like you’re my boyfriend, Eddie, so stop nagging me like you are!”
Backtrack. Where did that come from?
“Oh, so being your boyfriend is the requirement for being allowed to care about you?” Eddie asks, voice getting louder.
Buck has never before in his life been so unsure of what to say. He just shrugs defiantly, hoping Eddie will not be able to read the subtext in Buck’s eyes, which probably screams What the fuck is happening?!
Eddie gets a determined look on his face and simply says, “Okay, fine then.”
“What?”
“Fine, I’ll be your boyfriend.”OR
Eddie finds a way to get Buck to accept help.
