When you finally look up, he’s already watching you. Really watching you. It’s the same look he gets when you’re explaining something in a meeting and he forgets to take notes, too intent on the way your mouth moves. Or when you’re both grading in his office, his pen stilling mid-sentence because you sighed and rubbed your temple.
Sometimes you catch it during quiet evenings in the faculty lounge – the way his eyes flick to you over the rim of his mug, or when he pretends to read but hasn’t turned a page in ten minutes.
This whole time, he has watched you. And you realize, maybe you’ve been watching him too.
Your breath catches, the air suddenly too thick between you. "Oscar.”
He huffs out a soft laugh – barely there, more breath than sound.
