Max Mayfield has never been to summer camp in her life, but now she has a job at Camp Hawkins for the summer. Camp is a special place, one where fun is the norm, and it usually involves paint, water, or marshmallows. That being said, what’s far more interesting about the camp is her coworkers, especially Lucas. So Max embarks on a summer adventure of sweat, silliness, friendship, hard work, and maybe, just maybe, romance. Oh, and paintball. Lots of paintball.

She’s hurt, and she’s angry, she doesn’t want to watch this stupid game show—the camera cuts back and forth to her eyes, the TV. Rory is on the edge of her seat, wondering what’s going to happen next, even though something about it starts to feel a little familiar. They cut back to the TV one last time, music growing louder—
It explodes. Under Matilda’s stare.
Rory feels an icy, unpleasant sense of déjà vu, and then she starts to figure out exactly why Mama put this on.

“You shouldn’t have.” At Mike’s sportive ‘aw’, she rolls her eyes. “Not like that. You shouldn’t have come; you have school in the morning.” She steps back so she can look at Mike properly, give him the unimpressed, I think you’re being stupid face that Mike loves so much, loves maybe even more than the face she makes when she’s happy with him.
