Summary
He carefully removed the gauze covering its upper quadriceps and guided the Soldier into the oversized shower stall. It was capable of performing its own cleansing routines, but this handler had initiated shared showers early in their cohabitation. It was not irregular, except that all previous handlers had used this time for recreational purposes as well. The Captain seemed only to take satisfaction in thoroughly cleansing the body, as one might perform maintenance on a valuable rifle. A fitting comparison, if it had not jammed and misfired today.

Summary
A broken, disillusioned Steve Rogers is afflicted by a delusion that the mysterious assassin who nearly killed him is actually his best friend, who died 70 years ago. SHIELD wants to lock him up and return him to being a perfect, sparkling nationalist symbol as quickly as possible. Sam Wilson, who has wrestled with his own disillusionment and his own ghosts, knows that Steve needs compassion and the support of a true friend, not a forced regime of recovery that takes away what is left of his shattered autonomy.
Meanwhile, as Natasha tries to track down the Winter Soldier, her discoveries get more and more disturbing. She uncovers footage of the Soldier being subjected to, and forced to commit, horrific acts to maintain Hydra's cruel hierarchy. What's more, his resemblance to Steve's dead friend is too close to be coincidence. Sam and Natasha grow determined to stop the Soldier from being recaptured by his abusers, but how will Steve react when he learns the true extent of the Soldier's torture, and the true horror of what he was twisted into?
Is the Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes? Or is he a thing wearing Bucky Barnes's face?
Which of those things is worse?

Summary
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes are reunited, but only through the devastating loss of their former selves. Steve wants to help Bucky overcome the trauma of his captivity, but after Bucky deals with a retraumatizing hospital stay and the emergence of upsetting new memories, Steve is forced to realize how far out of his depth he really is.
When Natasha surprisingly reveals her own past with the Winter Soldier, Steve is confronted with the fact that there are some parts of Bucky he doesn't understand—and that he and Bucky aren't the only ones who were turned into weapons.
To help Bucky, and to uncover the sinister truth behind the supersoldier serum in front of the world, Steve will have to do the hardest thing he's ever done—truly face the pain and hurt of his own past, and revisit the times when he felt the most powerless. He must accept the help and support of his new friends, and allow them to truly see him.
Is Captain America a hero, or is he a weapon?
Did Steve Rogers get a choice?
