Jayce flicks his eyes up to Viktor’s face over the edge of his glasses before opening his palm and letting Viktor drop whatever it is he’s holding into his hand.

Jayce Talis is the owner of Talis Cattle Company, which is currently driving their entire herd of cattle from San Antonio to Fort Smith, Arkansas. On the way, he and his cattlehands stop in Waco, Texas to restock provisions, conduct business, and prepare for the final stretch of their journey.
They’re only meant to stay in Waco for a month. But while staying in the town’s hotel, Jayce visits the saloon and meets Viktor - a trans man forced to present as a saloon prostitute in order to make a living. Against all his better judgment, Jayce falls in love.
