    Summary

I sent ART the edited file along with a snapshot of my recent haptic sensor logs, which mostly looked like [deleted] [deleted] [deleted].

ART took a moment to process that. Your difficulty with physical touch extends beyond merely touching or being touched by humans, it surmised.

I guess, yeah. I bristled at calling it a ‘difficulty’: it wasn't hard to touch things, I just didn't like doing it. But I had a system for dealing with that, so whatever, it wasn't an issue.

    ---

Or, ART wants to make Murderbot comfortable. (And yes, it would like to feel that for itself, too.)

    Summary

I don’t normally pay that much attention to the credits. In general, I tend to care more about the fictional characters than the real humans playing them, but this had caught my attention.
I mean, it wasn't the first serial that ever put in a SecUnit as a villain instead of a prop. RihaniLane Street had actually made their SecUnit villain sympathetic before it tried to kill everyone. And obviously this fictional SecUnit was going to be a villain, too, because they always were, but that scene was —
The credits said ‘Made and Produced in GoodNightLander Independent.’
    Oh.

    -
Or, Murderbot has feelings about finding positive representation.
    Mostly positive.
Even when humans try, they get SecUnits wrong in media.
(Not the murder, the murders were justified, but the writers made the fictional SecUnit like cubicles)
    (It’s still pretty positive.)

    Summary

Environment=secure & hostile presence=null, Three reminded me. You are safe. Then it brought up the situational improvement parameters it’d sent. Query: enact?

I hesitated. Three waited. The thing was, these “improvements” weren’t necessary for the maintenance process. In fact, they were probably going to emotionally compromise one or both of us and make everything harder than it had to be. The smart, logical, reasonable thing to do would be to answer a negative and proceed with maintenance in a more standard/efficient way. Weirdly, though, that idea dropped my performance reliability by a whole percentage.

So maybe I wasn’t feeling very smart/logical/reasonable. I told Three Confirm before I could talk myself out of it.

    ————————

nothing to see here, just two deeply traumatized living weapons inventing new forms of weird physical intimacy in order to inflict tenderness on each other

Let’s start with the good part.

I accidentally helped Three (who was also helped by Ratthi and Bharadwaj) invent trauma recovery modules for murderbots. ART unhelped at first, but then it helped. I keep saying help too much but I’m not fucking changing it again, it’s been two hours. Anyways.
The bad part is everything else that had to happen first. Sane people shouldn’t get anywhere near a SecUnit’s worst memories, which is what we did so you don’t have to. Though I guess if you need the modules, you do have to. That’s kind of the point.

Well, don’t worry about all the atrocities. There’s no way yours can be worse than mine.
