Summary
Across the street, the driveway of 402 was bathed in the thin, slanting light of a late-autumn morning. And Rick was out there.
Daryl’s breath hitched, just once, a mechanical stutter in his chest that he didn't acknowledge.
Rick was wrestling with a lawnmower, the old red push-mower he refused to replace despite the pristine, self-driving machines the other neighbors used. He'd started in a heavy flannel - Daryl had watched it come off twenty minutes in, flung over the porch railing like a shed skin - and stripped down to a t-shirt that had probably been white once, years ago, but was now gray with age and washed thin, the sleeves cut off unevenly to expose tanned, corded muscle. His breath was fogging in short, hard bursts. He looked... Daryl searched for the word, rolling it around his mind like a smooth stone, tasting the shape of it. Golden. He looked golden.

A hunter learns the difference between a trap and a cage very early. A trap is what you use when the animal doesn't know it's dying yet. A cage is what you build when you've decided to keep it alive. This is a story about a cage.

Summary
Merle never prayed to God.
He liked to think that God had abandoned him the second that their deadbeat of a father impregnated that bitch for a mother—bitches if you count his baby brother's. Thoughts aside, God was asleep when he was beaten black and blue, God was nowhere when he ran off and left his brother to that piece of shit's mercy, God didn't exist every time he snorted meth lined up on some surface and get off the high.
So if heaven's idea of divine intervention involved him taking care of teenagers then this was one hell of a joke.

Summary
Negan’s voice drifted back through the ringing in Rick’s ears, distant and warped like it was coming through underwater.
“Anybody moves, anybody says anything… cut the boy’s other eye out and feed it to his father. And then we’ll start.”
Cold shot straight through him.
“You can breathe. You can blink. You can cry.“ Lucille rose slowly again. “Hell, you’re all gonna be doing that.”
A savage snarl tore through the quiet. Deep, furious, animal. Something huge burst from the pines, a blur of muscle and fur with terrifying speed. Rick didn't know what his eyes were seeing until it registered. A wolf, but far larger, thicker than any he had ever seen or known.
