In the servants’ hall he’d sipped his breakfast tea but hadn’t paid attention to much around him. Servants had shuffled in and out, chairs scraped across the stone floor, and teacups clinked against saucers but Thomas had thought only of the night before in the marquess’s room. He keeps thinking about that moment between them, when the marquess had been so close Thomas had felt the breath on his cheek. It’d been so long since anyone had been that close to him and he shudders when he remembers the feeling.
