“I’m baking a cake, obviously!” Gilbert jumped back up, “It’s my super cool fan’s birthday today so I’m baking one for her!!”

Where usually Lance found a thrill in the sudden speed of the aircraft as it raced down the runway, he was too preoccupied to really notice them lift off. Too distracted to even glance out the window and watch the scenery turn to specs of colour before being shrouded by clouds.
All he wanted was for the seatbelt sign to turn off, so he could plug in his headphones and sleep the rest of the flight away.
Just make it through without any further embarrassments and everything will be great.
A.K.ALance is an awkard bean around Keith, who just so happens to be the flight attendant on his plane. Someone help this poor boy.

Summary
As it turns out, it's very easy to misjudge a person's entire behaviour if you don't properly look. If you let yourself be fooled by the walls they build around themselves to feel less vulnerable, less scared.
Yes, it's easy to look at Lance and Keith, different as they are, with the constant glares and fights and screams of “He started it!” and think that they hate each other. But that's just a common misconception. The truth, as it often is in life, is much more complex, but also more beautiful in its absurdity.

“You’re not going to die, okay?” Lance promised, wishing from the deepest part of his heart and soul that it would not become a lie.
“Sure feels like it,” Keith whispered.
“You are not dying,” Lance’s voice was rough and frantic, trying to convince Keith as much as he wanted to convince himself. Keith’s eyes fluttered open, and he met Lance’s red-rimmed ones. There was such certainty and desperation fixated into them, that Keith was unable to contradict him.
“I’m not dying,” Keith decided to say, repeating Lance’s words. And even if it felt like he was lying to himself, something about the trust in Lance’s eyes made him want to believe that maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t a lie.
[or: a mission goes terribly wrong, Keith gets fatally injured, and Lance can only try his best to save him.]
