Summary
“One day I’ll be king.” Billy makes the declaration when he is eight playing in the courtyard with Steve, both of them wielding sticks against one another pretending to be dueling knights.
“You aren’t in line to be king, you aren't a part of the royal family.” Steve points out as Billy easily deflects his stick when he brings it down, Billy actually practices with practice swords every day while Steve is confined to the library forced into his morning studies so out of the two of them he is the one that actually knows what he is doing.
Billy pretends to think on it, moving in and tapping Steve’s thigh lightly with his stick, always more careful when he plays with Steve than anyone else. It still makes Steve gasp and jump back, makes him try darting forward to strike but Billy dodges him and all he catches is air. “Guess I’ll just have to marry you then.”
