Chapter 21
"What ?? I though you where human ! You even knew our dance and now you have feathers ?"
Aimsy stares in disbelief, her nose bridge wrinkled up, almost in a reflex of disgust.
"My dad is a human. Of course I know our traditions and values. I'm much more human then I am avient"
The moment between him and Piper is gone and he can't be fast enough to pull on his shirt again.
It almost hurt to put his heavy coat over the wings that grow on his back, he didn't even notice how freeing it felt having them out in the open and no fabric to press them down.
"I want you all to still think of me as a human. I don't want this to change your opinion of me.
The feathers on my back mean nothing."
Piper takes a deep breath and her fingers run over her own, well kept feathers. The way that he speaks about all that she is, her past and future, as someone who knows more about their tradition, the aviant ones then he wants to admit makes her feel sick.
Palomas low chirbs, soft and soothing, take her back into beeing cared for by her own parents. Since Palomas kids are so young she can still produce these sounds, but soon they are going to be gone, they are exclusively made for soothing nestlings but in that moment it's exactly what Piper needs and the knot in her throat is gone.
Pearl sighs. Somehow reliefed that Sirius choose this path. It will make this easier.
--------
It has been hours since Sirius has revealed his secret and Nylou still can't figure out how to put her feelings about this into words.
Of course she had reassured him then and there that she loves him no matter what but there is the faint sting of a betrayal. He could've told her sooner. He should've. She has been telling him everything about her in a heartbeat, her feelings, secrets and fears, thinking he had done the same. But now, everything she knows about him is falling apart and she can't help but wonder if that was all he'd been keeping from her.
Nylou felt as if she knew nothing of him now. What he had told her about his family was all lies. His mother never left him and his dad alone and stayed instead, hidden away, never to meet her.
