It’d been a while since Tony had been to the bar to chat to Beverly. Since the last time he was there he’d started dating Cam (somehow), although he knew he probably didn’t have to tell Beverly about it. She’d probably seen enough to figure it out herself while she helped Eddie at the Breaker Box.

Tony felt pretty good about going to the bar with Cam. It was somewhere he enjoyed unwinding, and Beverly was someone he’d always enjoyed talking to. Being able to do that together with Cam was another new little thing he could appreciate.

When Tony and Cam showed up at the bar, Beverly was leaning on the counter, wiping down glasses and stacking them. She looked up and gave Tony a smile, nodding over to Cam.

“How are we, fellas?” She greeted, the inflection in her voice showing her amusement and confirming to Tony that she knew what was going on.

Tony smiled back and wrapped an arm around Cam. “Pretty damn good, Bevy.”

Beverly decided against teasing them and just slid two coasters across the bar. “What can I do for ya, guys?”

Tony and Cam both ordered, just a pint of beer each, and Beverly began pouring their drinks.

As their pints were sat down in front of them, Tony couldn’t hold his curiosity back any longer. “So… Bevy… do ya know if uhh… Rainey knows about us?”

Beverly raised an eyebrow, giving a half-smile. “I don’t think so, I haven’t told her at least.”

Tony couldn’t say he expected that. “Really? Ya haven’t?”

“I don’t meddle with things unless I’m asked to, and neither of you asked me to.” Beverly explained.

Cam looked up for a moment. “Wait… you already know about us?”

Beverly smiled. “Yeah, I saw pretty much everything when you guys had your little… moment at the Breaker Box. I’ve seen you guys around a couple times since so I figured you must’ve figured your shit out not long after.”

Before Cam could say anything in response, in breezed Rainey, energetic as always as she took a seat at the bar next to Tony.

“Bev! You will not believe what a little birdie told me about Dunk!” She began, seemingly not recognising who she’d sat next to.

Tony couldn’t help himself. “Is he finally gonna go after Stepford?”

Caught off-guard, Rainey turned her head towards Tony. “Was I the only one who didn’t know- oh hey you two! I didn’t even notice!” Her tone indicated she didn’t know anything about Tony and Cam, merely thinking she’d caught them in a funny coincidence.

Beverly nodded at Rainey while looking straight at Tony with a shit-eating grin, as if to say that’s why I haven’t told her.

That made Cam chuckle to himself, eliciting a light kick under the bar from Tony, as if to tell him not to blow it for them. The pair exchanged a glance, Cam arching an eyebrow and Tony darting his eyes in Rainey’s direction. Cam smirked, as if to accept the challenge of seeing how far they could take things before she realised what was going on.

“Anyway…” Rainey continued her story, and while it was pretty interesting to hear about Dunk finally realising he had a thing for Stepford, Tony was now much more engaged in this game he’d begun with Cam, and he couldn’t resist stirring the pot a little. He shifted to the edge of his stool, deliberately brushing shoulders with Cam.

Cam played along, resting his hand on Tony’s thigh beneath the bar. Tony somehow stopped himself from giggling, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered, Rainey too busy wildly gesturing as she told her story. Who knew Stepford liked Dunk back? Oh wait, everyone did, except for Rainey until today, Tony guessed.

Beverly gave a sly look to Tony and Cam from behind the bar as she polished a glass, shaking her head lightly.

Rainey was still none the wiser, so Tony decided to take things up a notch or three. “Hey babe, could ya pass me the water jug?”

Somehow Rainey hadn’t even noticed that. As Cam passed Tony the water, she was starting to tell another story, this time something about the Hanks. Beverly held back laughter as she listened.

Cam was the next to progress things, leaning his head on Tony’s shoulder for a moment. Tony was sure this would be it, but Rainey kept up her animated conversation, utterly oblivious.

Tony turned to Cam and whispered. “This is impossible.”

Cam stifled a laugh.

As Beverly stacked glasses to put them away she turned around and mouthed told you at Tony.

Tony decided that was enough of their little game. With some balance of impatience and mischief, he stood up behind his stool and smirked at Cam. “You keep lookin’ at me like that babe, and I swear you’ll get us kicked outta here.”

Cam didn’t answer with words, instead catching on to where Tony wanted things to head, and leaning in to kiss him firmly, in plain view of Rainey, who was definitely at least looking their way now.

Silence hung in the air for a moment before Rainey erupted, practically falling off her stool. “You gotta be kiddin’ me! Y’all figured it out and never told me!?”

Beverly chuckled and rolled her eyes. “I knew you wouldn’t notice until it hit you in the face.”

Rainey flailed her arms around dramatically. “So you did just call each other babe! I thought I was hearin’ things for sure!”

Cam slid off his stool, grinning from ear to ear. “I’ll go get him before she freaks out any more.”

“Go on, lover boy. I’ll handle the dramatics.” Beverly nodded.

Tony was soon joined at the kitchen counter by Cam, and he could still hear Rainey and Beverly gossiping, now about them.

Cam nudged his shoulder. “You’re ridiculous, y’know that bug?”

Tony grinned at him. “Took her long enough.”

“You just couldn’t let it play out.” Cam laughed, slipping his hand into Tony’s.

Tony’s grin turned a bit more smug. “What if I just wanted a kiss from ya?”

Cam squeezed his hand and giggled softly. “At least she knows now.”

Tony’s smug grin softened back into something more adoring as they walked back to the bar, hand in hand, now with their own story to tell.

Notes:

I'm back! After almost two months (sorry about that one, writers block and assignments hit hard) I'm back to writing. It'll probably be a little longer between chapters than it was initially, but I hope to pick this back up fairly often. Thanks for reading!

Check out my tumblr, bighat45, I post updates on this occasionally and some other stuff.
