Work Text:
Hitoshi stood in front of his bedroom door, hand wrapped tight around the handle, his fingers trembling. His nerves stopped him from walking into the living room and just saying it.
He took another slow breath, letting the cool evening breeze drift in through the open window beside him. ‘Calm down’ he told himself ‘Dad and ‘Zashi don’t seem like they would judge me for being bisexual’
Honestly, it certainly never came to mind that they would find anything against it. Dad’s been single ever since he adopted Hitoshi—or he’d done a damn good job at keeping his relationships really hidden. And ‘Zashi never was one for long term relationships, setting in for a quick fling here or there. Well, not here, in their apartment—he always disappeared after going out and only coming back the day after.
Thinking a little harder about it though… There was the one time where a drunk Kayama (“Call me Nem, kid! I’m practically your auntie!”) came back to the apartment, dragging the two men behind her like sacks of rice.
“Kayama?” Hitoshi had asked, stepping out of his room when he heard her voice echoing through the apartment.
She’d spun around so fast he thought she might snap her own neck, dropping the men without a second thought when she saw him. Her eyes lit up. “Ah, my little nephew!” she sang out, nearly toppling as she staggered over and threw herself at him . The boy cringed at the strong alcohol odor falling off of her. “And I told you to call me Auntie!” she pouted at him, “Or at least Nemuri.”
“Right.” Hitoshi said, not intending to call her that (she barely came by enough for him to feel comfortable calling the woman—his teacher—by first name).
While he guided her to the kitchen to get a glass of water, she babbled about their night out. “—And the whole restaurant was staring at Shouta!” she cackled, loud enough to make him cringe, “Even those aunties on the left were doing a whole analysis of his body! Man, I swear that waiter purposefully dropped the soup on Shouta’s shirt, wasn’t even pretending to be slick.”
He only half listened, nodding along while using every pause in her slurred rambling to nudge the glass of water to her lips. Eventually, after a few sips and more giggling, he tried guiding her to the guest room—
Scratch that, she fell asleep in his arms. He rolled his eyes. It ended up Hitoshi him dragging her body to the guest bedroom, gently lowering her onto the bed before throwing a blanket over her.
Then, he turned back toward the hallway, where his guardians had been dropped off, porbably blacked out from the lack of reaction nor movement.
Both were heavier than Kayama, meaning Hitoshi had to sweat so much more as he tried to drag them to their respective rooms. Only… He gave up a third of the way, instead opting on dropping them off on the couch. On the same couch.
It wasn’t like they were strangers to sharing space. The men were best friendssince thier days at Yuuei. They could handle sleeping on top of each other for one night. Hell, after Dad adopted him, Hizashi had been around constantly to help out until he eventually moved in himself. At this point, he was practically a second dad.
So if they complained it would be their own fault.
The thought tugged a smile onto his lips. His heart calmed, just for a second. Before anxiety could creep back in, Hitoshi finally turned and opened the door, stepping out with his shoulders all the way to his ears.
“Everything okay?” Dad asked the moment Hitoshi stepped into the living room. Before he could even look confused, the man added, “We heard you standing outside your door for a solid minute.”
“Shouta!” Hizashi elbowed him in the ribs, “Don’t put ‘Toshi on the spot like that—you know its bad for the nerves!”
Ah shit. So they heard his nervous breakdown?
“You know what else is bad?” Dad asked Zashi, a smirk slowly stretching on his lips.
Even though Hizashi knew what answer was about to be delivered, he still asked. Looking at the black-haired man deadpan, one eyebrow raised. “What?”
“For you to talk so much.” That comment… was nothing new. Neither was the bickering that followed.
While they did that, Hitoshi went and sat down on the armchair. He watched them as they argued back and forth, snarky comments being thrown between the best friends. ‘They seem in a good mood’ he bit his lip, fingers playing with the loose thread on the armchair ‘Would me confessing ruin it?’
He almost chickened out. Almost.
“…Boyfriend.” Well… he whispered the first part. Sue him!
Aaaand apparently they didn’t hear him.
“At least I’m being a decent person and move out of the way for those delivery robots!”
The black haired man scoffed, “I’m not moving out of the way for some robot—especially not the ones that aren’t controlled by Nedzu.”
Hizashi gasped dramatically, eyes wide and hand to his chest like he’d just been shot, “Shouta! Rosa Parts didn’t die for this!”
Watching them was like watching a chess match where both players made up new rules every five seconds. Somehow, Hizashi came out victorious, judging by the smug grin he threw over his shoulder after turning away from Shouta.
And Hitoshi? He was still sitting there, heart hammering like a damn jackhammer in his chest.
When the blond finally faced him, seeing his form; tense, stiff, and clearly on edge—the smirk vanished instantly. Concern replaced it. “Everything okay, ‘Toshi?”
The boy gulped. “Ye—ah-“
Mortified, he slapped his hands over his mouth, eyes wide.
No way his voice just cracked.
Gosh he was a loser. Please just let him die.
The moment he heard a chuckle, his head snapped toward the adults, ready to glare daggers. But the second he made eye contact with dad, the smile disappeared from his father’s face. The man cleared his throat, using a cough to cover it up before turning to the blond beside him, “Hizashi, it’s inappropriate to laugh when Hitoshi clearly wants to tell us something important.”
“You ass, Shouta! You also laughed—ugh. Whatever.” Hizashi rolled his eyes but turned back to Hitoshi, “Sorry about that. What did you want to tell us?” he asked with a warm smile, trying to encourage him.
Hitoshi felt his throat tighten. His heart was trying to climb out of his chest, but he forced himself to breathe and tried again, "I have a..." The words hung in the air for a few seconds, and the room was filled with an almost tangible sense of anticipation as he yet again didn’t quiet finish his words.
A quick glance was exchanged between the best friends, almost as if they were having a silent conversation, attempting to gauge if the other had understood what Hitoshi had just said.
Thankfully, neither of them pushed. No one demanded he get on with it. They just waited, giving him the space he needed.
Hitoshi glanced down, tugging lightly at the loose thread on his sleeve. He felt ridiculous for freezing up. For having just glared at them for laughing at his voice crack (sue him! He’s a teenager!) Hitoshi sure did feel lucky to have been adopted by them. Even on the most exhausting of days, just seeing them sitting on the couch, hair either up in a bun or loosely hanging on their shoulders, and covered in cat fur, made him feel at home.
He was really lucky to have them.
This reminded him that he could count on them no matter what. So, Hitoshi took another deep breath, trying to steady his pounding heart before repeating himself. "I have a...boyfriend." he said, this time louder—still shaky, but clear enough.
Then quickly before his guaridans could even speak a word, he added, "I'm bisexual." He just wanted it all out. All at once. Get it done before he lost the nerve.
And then he waited.
Both men stared at him. Not with anger. Not even confusion. Just... surprise?
His heart sank. Was that bad? Were they not saying anything because they didn’t like it? Or worse—because they didn’t like him anymore?
But then—he caught it.
A sound. A stifled chuckle from Hizashi.
Was he...Was he laughing at him? Ridiculing him?
Then dad spoke up, "I'm so glad you told us, Hitoshi," his voice was warm and reassuring. "We're proud of you."
In an instant relief washed over the boy, and he felt the tension in his body start to dissipate. When he looked over at Zashi, the man was already smiling softly at him.
They both looked so welcoming and supportive, and Hitoshi felt a sense of gratitude wash over him.
He took a deep breath and tried to steady himself. "Thank you," he said quietkly, but with more confidence this time, "I just wanted you both to know."
The blond man nodded, his smile growing wider. "We're glad you told us," he repeated. "And we're proud of you for being brave enough to share your truth with us."
Hitoshi felt his chest swell with emotion. He had been so nervous about telling them, but their response was everything he could have hoped for and more (if he left out them laughing at his voice crack).
Then Dad hummed, smirk on his face, “But kid, we both already knew.”
“Yep, thats why I started laughing—sorry.”
...
“Wh—at-?“
No. No, no, no.
No. Fucking. Way.
Hitoshi voice did not just crack again. No. Nah. No way.
‘Please tell me I’m imagining this’ he closed his eyes, sending out a silent prayer to whoever was listening.
Before he could bury himself alive, Hizashi jumped in, saving him... sort of.
“Yeah, I mean, come on. The way some boys look at you? Dead giveaway. Plus, I still have the video Nedzu sent to the group chat—you remember that training exercise with Midoriya? When he grabbed the end of your capture weapon, wrapped it around himself, and launched into your face? Thighs and all?” the man laughed in his face.
Hitoshi, on the other hand, wanted to die. Throw him in jail, why don’t they? His boyfriend (back then they weren’t together, but it still was an insane display) basically choked him with his thighs mid battle! That shit was so friggin hot but also—
“Why would you keep that?!” he groaned, hands over his burning face. “And delete those videos—I can’t belive Principal Nedzu is in on this!” he hissed, still red in the face. But at least they approached the boyfriend topic with his actual boyfriend (not that they knew).
“Too late!” Zashi grinned. “We even got the camera footage of you avoiding the kiddo for a week straigth afterward!”
Hitoshi could not handle this. “Forget that happened. Delete those videos. Burn your phones.” Also... “What did you mean by how other boys stare at me?”
“Oh my god,” Hizashi turned to dad, “Don’t tell me Hitoshi is one of those cool guys that doesnt realize he’s cool?”
Dad didn’t even deny it. He just shrugged. “Didn’t Kaminari ask you out?”
“Wha-? No! When, even?!”
“Please, Shouta, you can’t count that as flirting. This is the kid who called Miruko a mamacita after having learned that American kids use it as slang.” He leveled him with a stare before adressing Hitoshi, “Back when you were in my class, two of the boys—Tanaka and Yoshida—were eyeing you like you were lunch. Not to mention the giant second-year who nearly tripped over his own feet when you walked by.”
“Why are you guys-?! That never happened!” Hitoshi denied, still completly red.
Dad just shook his head, “As always, the first step is denial.”
Then, as if they practised the phrase together, Hizashi continued in perfect sync, “Second step: Daniel.”
At this point, the boy was drowning in misery. He grabbed a throw pillow and covered his face with it, not wanting to indulge—any more and he would combust!
Apparently Hizashi misunderstood his silence for confusion,“You know, the German exchange student, Daniel, from the support class? I think he tried to spike up a conversation with you a few times.”
It took a few minutes of them one upping each other, but eventually, they calmed down and regained the composure. Then the father looked back at his son, his eyes now serious and attentive. "So...this boyfriend of yours, do we need to meet him? And who is it, even?" he started to ask.
Ah, right. He still had the second part of the coming out plan to do; the hard part.
In hindsight Hitoshi knew that his dad was both exasperated at his new class and fond at them, especially after already having gone through several villain attacks with them. But with Izuku, who dad has dubbed 'problem child'... the teen is not so sure anymore.
He set the pillow down and took another breath, trying to calm his nerves. He kept glancing at his dad. He had to do this. Now or never. “Its Izuk- erm, Midoriya, you know, ‘problem chi-‘“
He got cut off by dad immediately, "No."
Hitoshi's heart dropped as he heard the flat, one-word response. He knew that his dad could be stern and intimidating when he wanted to be. The boy swallowed nervously before speaking up again."Dad, please listen. Izuku is a good person, and he makes me happy. I know you have your own opinion on him, but I swear he’s not purposfully being a problem child!"
Hitoshi's heart pounded in his chest, anxiety building with each passing moment of silence. He couldn't believe his dad's reaction, and the thought of losing his approval was almost too much to bear.
Shit was fine just a second ago! They were laughing and stuff!
But... What if dad never accepted Izuku? Could Hitoshi still be with him, even if it meant going against his dad's wishes?
The uncertainty was suffocating, and he felt like he couldn't breathe. The tension in the room grew. Fuck—
Then Hizashi intervened, scolding his dad for his abrupt dismissal. "Shou, you big brute!"
The purple headed boy blinked at the scene: the blond trying to suffocate his dad with one hand while still addressing him with the other. Dad, to his credit, tried to lean away from the assault without much success."Hitoshi, kiddo, don't take your fathers words seriously, he's just kidding—isn't that right, Shouta?" his dad got pierced with those toxic green eyes and whatever fight he still had within him left, leaving him defeat on the couch, grumbling about the acceptance of his sons partner.
“I didn’t say I didn’t accept it,” he grumbled. “I just… why him?”
Hitoshi stiffened slightly.
"Why problem child? Out of all of them, why him?" he looked like the question was actually hurting him. Wow. Dramatic much. “Problem child is a magnet for chaos. He’s already got All Might’s attention, half the hero world is watching him, and the one time I spoke to him personally, he burst into tears like he was being abused right in front of me.”
He leaned back with a groan, rubbing his eyes. “Nedzu had to send me the security footage with a quetsion mark, I’m sure if the audio was compromised I would’ve been reported. If I had a yen for every time Midoriya looked like someone kicked his puppy when I walked into a room after that conversation—”
Hizashi rolled his eyes, dismissing the other with a comment, “If it weren’t for the cameras and audio recordings then we all would’ve been in prison already.”
“But...” dad started, fake disdain on his face, exasparated, “Hitoshi’s everything and Midoriya’s... he’s like Ken.”
That made Hitoshi flush. Compliments from dad were rare. Getting one while in the same breath calling his boyfriend ‘Ken’ of all things? Shit was crazy.
And wrong, too.
If anything, Izuku was Barbie. Hitoshi was Raquel.
“Shouta, c’mon, we’re haters not liars.”
“So, why him?”
As the question was repeated, Hitoshi looked away, face warming. “It’s just…” How was he supposed to explain it? How do you explain gravity? “It’s like for the first time ever, I wasn’t the one hypnotizing everyone.” He glanced down at his lap, fingers twisting together. “It was like he got to me first.”
His voice softened, a little nostalgic, a little overwhelmed. “I was like that kid alone on the playground. You see them and feel bad, right? But no one really goes over. Except… Izuku did. He just ran up, said practically said ‘we’re friends now,’ and never let go.” He gave a quiet laugh. “It’s only a reference, but that’s how we ended up here.”
When he looked up again, Dad’s eyes were somewhere else. Probably mentally swapping ‘playground kid’ with a lonely cat at a shelter to help him relate. He looked away, grumbling something under his breath that he couldn't decipher.
Hitoshi huffed a sigh. “Exactly.”
After a bit more of grumbling and bickering, they all fell into companionable silence.
It was during one of these lulls in conversation that the rain started. At first, it was so slow and gentle that it was only a whisper, but gradually, the sound of raindrops tapping against the windows grew louder and louder.
Hitoshi took the moment for what it was; an out.
He got up, stretched, and excused himself. “I’m heading to bed.” The sound of rain accompanied him down the hallway, a quiet hum in the background, like ASMR.
Wait… did that count as ASMR?
Wouldn’t rain be the real ASMR?

Hitoshi had just started dozing off, phone still in hand, light from the screen dimmed but not off. He really hadn’t meant to fall asleep. He was supposed to text Izuku. Just a simple “all good, talk tomorrow,” but instead he’d scrolled, blinked slowly, and let his phone slip onto his chest.
Then the phone vibrated.
He jolted awake with a quiet curse, blinking at the name on the screen. Shit.
Still half asleep, he rolled off the bed, grabbed a bottle of water from the desk, and padded into the living room as he answered, “Hey… sorry. I fell asleep.”
On the other end, Izuku sounded breathless, like he’d been rushing around. “Toshi! It’s okay, I figured you’d fall asleep. I, um, I told my mom everything.”
Hitoshi sraigthened up a bit, rubbing at his eyes. “Everything?”
“Yeah. I told her about us—and she was totally fine with it! She even proposed—”
“Demanded!” came a shout in the background, followed by Izuku’s startled sqwak.
“Yeah yeah, anyway, Mom wants you to have dinner with us! I, um, only if you want though.. I wouldn’t want to put pressure on you though…” Izuku’s voice became quieter at the end, obviously nervous if Hitoshi knew anything about his boyfriend.
A chuckle escaped the purple headed boy as he answered “I’d gladly come over… although maybe in a week? Gonna need some mental prep before meeting your mom. You and Bakugou talk her up like she walks on air.”
Hitoshi smiled—couldn’t help it. It crept onto his face slowly but stayed there, even as he glanced toward the living room couch. Hizashi was still awake, clearly listening in, eyes bright with interest. Dad was leaned back in the armchair, arms crossed, not saying anything—but not exactly hiding the fact that he was listening either.
It was... nice.
“Of- of course! I’ll tell you tomorrow at school when we’re avaible. AH- before I forget, how did it go with your parents?”
Hitoshi’s smile shifted into a smirk. He glanced at his guardians again—Hizashi practically vibrating—and turned slightly away from them. No way he was asking this next part while looking them in the eye. “It went great,” he said, then added, quieter, “How about we go on a date after school tomorrow and I’ll tell you more?”
He could feel Izuku’s embarrassment over the phone “Y-yeah, lets do that.” Someone called for Izuku in the background, and after a rushed goodbye, the line cut out.
Hitoshi lowered the phone, only to look up and find two very smug grins waiting for him.
“Hitoshi, you smooth talker!” Hizashi said, nudging him with an elbow and a laugh.
Dad crossed his arms when Hitoshi finally looked back at him, “I also ‘demand’ a dinner with problem child.”
Welp.
Lets just hope his voice won’t crack at dinner.
Aaand for that he needed to get proper sleep. So back to his room it is.

Omake 1: After Hitoshi left the living room the first time
“You know, talking about cats—“
“I knew you replaced the word ‘children’ with cats inside your head!”
“Whatever. But I saw two cats today, I think someone painted them to look like Mount Lady and Nemuri. They were attacking each other, but not in the dangerous way.”
“You’re kidding, right? But you got a point, Nem and Mount Lady act like sister fighting on television.”
“Yeah... like scissor sisters.”
“Shouta!”
---
Omake 2: Dinner with the parents!
Inko: “I didn’t know what to make since all of you are heroes, so… here, have five plates of meat for your muscles!”
Hizashi and Shouta, who havent had a mothers homemade dish in decades: Eating two thirds and taking the rest home, already planning a second visit next week.
Hitoshi, embarrased: “I swear I’m sorry for them, I didn’t know I lived with the spirits of greed and gluttony.”
---
Omake 3: Parentage reveal
Shinsou to the class: “I’m actually Sensei’s son. He’s my dad.”
Tsu: “Shinsou-chan does look like Aizawa-Sensei.”
Shouto: “I don’t see the resemblance. I think the whole thing is a cover-up to distract us from the fact that Midoriya is All Might’s secret love child.”
Bakugou: Fuck you mean you dont see it?? Zombie freak is literally Hobo-Sensei’s copy!
