At seventeen, Midoriya Izuku enters U.A. with a quirk that sets him apart in ways most people can’t quite explain. He’s quiet, observant, and always just a little distant- as if he’s listening to something no one else can hear. It’s easier to keep his head down, to avoid questions, to let people misunderstand him.
Shinsou Hitoshi doesn’t misunderstand- he judges.
Used to being looked down on for his own quirk, Shinsou is quick to assume Izuku is no different from everyone else who never had to struggle. Someone with power. Someone who wouldn’t get it.
He’s wrong.
Because Izuku’s quirk isn’t simple- it’s isolating, invasive, and far heavier than it looks. And the more time they spend together, the more Shinsou starts to notice the small things: the way Izuku hesitates before acting, the way he avoids certain situations, the way something unseen seems to follow him wherever he goes.
What starts as tension slowly shifts into something quieter- curiosity, understanding, and something neither of them expected to find. But getting close to Izuku means seeing the parts he keeps hidden, and not everything he carries is easy to face.

Izuku woke up and knew today wasn’t going to be a good day.
You would think that his birthday would be a happy day, one of excitement and fun and joy, but that was the very opposite of what his birthday was.
All his birthday serves as is a reminder, a reminder of his diagnosis as quirkless, a diagnosis that would ruin his life for eight out of his thirteen years.
A reminder of his mother’s tragic death, and the subsequent abuse he suffered in the foster system.
A reminder of Hitoshi’s attempt, and subsequently his own a year later.
His birthday had nothing going for it, and most of the time he wishes he could skip the day altogether.

It's not everyday you hear your childhood bully tell another kid to take a swan dive off a roof, well lucky for Denki Kaminari - who's just been told to jump off of U.A.'s roof - Izuku Midoriya won't put up with it. When it was him, it was fine. After all, Izuku could handle the violent way Katsuki Bakugo treated him, but not Denki. Never Denki.
So, without thinking, Izuku goes up to Katsuki with glowing yellow eyes, and then proceeds to slam his head into a wall with the help of One For All. Now, it was a good plan, even if Izuku hadn't actually thought of it. What wasn't a good plan, was Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada walking into the classroom to witness Izuku using his teachers quirk against his childhood bully.
Inko Midoriya had a lot of explaining to do.
