Monster Slayer/A MHA Retelling

Chapter 11: Living in his Shadow

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The Blood Monster Art was activated, spawning a shadow around the six. Kirishima tried to look around for the others but couldn't see them, only finding Kaminari, who was holding onto his legs in fear.

Eventually the darkness disappeared, leaving Kaminari and Kirishima alone. "Hey, stop holding onto me, be a man."

"Sorry." Kaminari's tight grip was released but his body was still full of fear. "What the heck was that?"

"I have no idea," Kirishima looked around the area, noticing it was only them. "But it seemed to have split us up."

"Geez dude that's terrifying, can you imagine what other scary monsters are here."

"Well we probably shouldn't be worrying about that, we gotta find the others," Kirishima told him.

Kaminari was still shuddering like crazy. "Not worrying is kinda hard for me not to do, especially when I'm in a terrifying place, like this."

He then noticed the red haired boy walking away, and quickly ran up to him, helping him search.

Midoriya and Bakugo were now stranded together, the spell that was unleashed on them, ending.

When the spiky blonde saw who he was stuck with, an annoyed groan left his mouth. "Great, I'm stuck with you."

He then noticed the boy wasn't listening, focused on a different topic. "That thing that just happened was really incredible, could it be a blood monster art, could that be a monster part of the League of Kizu-."

Bakugo's anger slowly rose the more he heard him mutter, his body unable to take it anymore. "SHUT UP DEKU!!!"

He began to scratch his neck from embarrassment when he realized what he was doing. "Sorry Kacchan."

His apology was ignored as Bakugo looked around. He then spread out his arms a bit, the palm facing the ground. Explosion were shortly released from his arms, propelling him into the air.

A big smile came on Midoriya's face. "Great idea Kacchan, if you're up there, it'll be easier to find the others."

"Ha, I'm not looking for those extras, I'm finding some monsters." Another explosion came out his hands and he flew away.

Midoriya tried to stop him, but his yells of pleading were ineffective. When his childhood friend was out of view, he released a sigh of disappointment. "Looks like I'm alone now."

Still though he knew he couldn't just stand there and be sad he was alone and had to try to at least regroup. Full Cowl was activated, and he immediately flinched from the devastating smell.

”That scent, my nose could barely handle it, the monster here must be really powerful, possibly a member of the League of Kizuki.”

Midoriya started to search around, trying his hardest to track down the scent, but was unable to.

”His scent is so powerful, it’s coming from all directions, I’ll have to rely on my other senses for the time being.”

Midoriya ran forward, beginning his search for the monster but didn't know that someone was silently watching him.

Iida and Uraraka were with a newly met monster slayer named Rikido Sato, fighting off other monster slayers.

"Iida, what are we gonna do," Uraraka asked, currently blocking a blade.

"We'll just have to endure for the time being Uraraka, we can't kill them, they're still our fellow teammates," Iida told her.

He then hit the slayer's blade, knocking them back a bit, giving him a chance to finally think.

”Ok Tenya, just stay calm, Tensei always told you monsters have some kind of trick, so find it.”

The monster slayer he knock over was back on his feet, charging towards Iida with his sword. He quickly shifted to right, avoiding the attack, noticing something strange afterwards.

”His shadow, it’s darker than a regular one and it’s moving before its owner, could that be what’s behind this.”

Iida swung his sword, slashing through the shadow, destroying it. The slayer then fell to the ground in exhaustion.

"Uraraka, Sato, their shadows, those are controlling them, slash the shadows to stop them," Iida told them.

"Slash their shadows," Uraraka forced her blade up, making the slayer she was blocking lose his balance.

She then touched her body, causing her to start floating. She levitated over the monster slayer and cut through the shadow. "Release." She said, as her hands were put together and fell back to the ground, a little light headed.

Sato shortly freed his opponent after, causing the three to have mini feel of celebration.

"Yay, we did," Uraraka exclaimed, pumping both her fists in the air.

Their happiness was interrupted though, when more slayers approached them.

"Uh oh, looks like we have more to fight off," said Uraraka.

A slayer charged towards Iida, but he blocked the attack and lifted his sword to make him lose his footing, slashing the shadow after. "I have a feelings there's a monster somewhere controlling our comrades."

"You two go try to track it," Sato said as he released a slayer from its control. "I'll stay here and fend off against these people."

"Are you sure Sato," Uraraka said as she cut a shadow off a person.

"Yes, I know the secret to beating them and their attacks are very basic, so I should be fine," he reassured them.

"He's correct Uraraka, we should go," Iida focused on the shadows, noticing a new detail. "The shadows seem to be heading north, we will travel in that direction."

"Gotcha Iida, let's go," Uraraka said, and the two ran away, Sato consuming

A spell was being done by a monster, her hands out to perform it. "Those Monster Slayers think they can get away, haha, they're be gone soon."

"What did you just say."

The monster flinched from the sudden noise, recognizing the terrifying owner of the voice. "Oh Fumikage, I was just saying the slayers that are here will be gone soon."

His expression became one of anger, glaring at the woman now. "You moron, I don't want them dead, I want to form a friendship with them, just gain their control, killing is a last resort."

The look he was giving, shot daggers into her body. "Y-Y-You got it Fumikage, of course."

"I've got to leave, I have a new friends to add myself." He was quickly gone after.

Even when he left though, the woman was still brimming with fear. Her hands got darker, as more shadows were shot out.

Iida and Uraraka were still running north, searching for the location of the monster. They were stopped though, when they were met with more Monster Slayers.

One was a female, she had her sword stabbed into slayers neck who was lying dead on the floor while she had another in her hand, grabbing his unconscious body by his hair. "Stop, don't come any closer."

"You have to go and bring someone else who's a higher rank.......it's the only way for certain to stop the rest of us from being killed."

The more she begged, the sadder Iida and Uraraka got, the former being extremely devastated.

She then swung her sword, but luckily the two were able to avoid it.

”Her movements are quick.”

The girl began to rapidly swing her sword. "I'm being controlled, so my movement aren't my own." Her arms were then held back, so far behind her that her bones began to crack.

She then charged forward toward Iida, ready to slash him. He swiftly blocked her barrage of attacks with his sword.

”This monster is showing no concern for the condition of her body, the amount of stain it’s putting on it.”

A powerful slash from above was swung, but Iida was able to place his sword above before it could hit him.

Meanwhile, Uraraka's shadow began to darken, losing control herself of her body and charging towards her friend. "Iida, watch out!!!"

Once Iida noticed the attack coming towards him, he pushed the slayer infront of him away and jumped out the way of Uraraka.

After dodging, he put his attention into his breathing, focusing a move. "Brisk Drift."

The engine on his calves activated and he dashed ahead. When right aside Uraraka, he drifted, cutting right through the shadow.

A smile of relief came on her lips, when she was freed. "Thanks Iida."

"You're welcome Uraraka," he noticed the shadow on his left arm began to darken, quickly cutting it before the whole thing could. "Just make sure you focus."

A thumbs up was given to her comrade. "Gotcha!"

The woman controlling the slayers fright was increasing, her body shuddering even more. "Those idiots won't let me control them, I need to distract them somehow."

Two fallen monster slayers slowly got up onto their feet, though the bones in their arms and legs were destroyed. "Please, end our lives, every time we're forced to move, the pain is unbearable, I personally can't take it anymore, either way, we'll die, so just hurry up and finish the job."

These words were depressing to the two slayers, their teammates in so much pain they didn't deserve.

Uraraka look at Iida, her smile fully disappeared. "Should we Iida?"

"We can't Uraraka, they're still our fellow corps members," Iida told her, as he cut a shadow growing on him.

The brunette wasn't fully convinced with this answer. "Are you sure, they were begging to be put out their misery."

The swordsman dashed towards her, but she dodged his attack and went to Iida, as she slashed a shadow off herself. "Wow, these guys are fast too."

"Correct, but I'll ponder something," Iida reassured.

“Think Tenya, like Tensei would, I need a way to stop them indefinitely without killing them.” He looked at his opponents' shadow, an idea beginning to creep into his mind. “Their shadows are physical, that’s it.”

Iida started run, confusing Uraraka. The female slayer was running after him, which he expected. Once a certain distance, he turned around and grabbed her, throwing the slayer in the air.

Before she could fall back to the ground, a branch stopped her, trapping her into the air.

"Excellent, it worked," Iida said.

Uraraka watched the interaction with amazement. "That's a great idea Iida!" She ran to the two slayers and touched them, causing them to float.

"Release!" Is what she said, when her hands were put together, making the slayers get hanged too.

She then fell to her knees, barfing onto the floor. Iida noticed a shadow growing on her while she was throwing up, but he sliced it before it could control her.

The shadow puppeteer's body was now mixed with fear and burning anger. "These stupid useless puppets, I don't need them anymore."

All the heads of the slayers in the area, were turned all the way over, killing them.

Uraraka's eyes shot opened, her jaw dropped as she watched it happen. She looked over at Iida and his face was hidden from her but she still knew it was full of despair and anger. "Uh Iid-."

"Let's go," he interrupted, in a very cold tone.

"Right."

Iida and Uraraka were still running through the forest, heading to the place of the monster. Iida was still in distress about the situation that just occurred.

”Tensei, if only you were here instead of me, I’ve got to be more like you if I want to save everyone.”

The blue haired boy looked forward, spotting something up ahead. "Uraraka, there's someone over there."

"I think I see it, Iida," Uraraka's speed began to increase. "I'll cut off its head."

Once close enough, Uraraka jumped, her sword ready for an attack. Much to her surprise though, it didn't have head, and blocked her swing with its right blade arm.

Its left blade was coming towards her side, but she quickly floated away before it could and landed near Iida. "That thing doesn't have a head, how are we gonna kill it?"

Its blade was launched forward, breaking some of the ground from the impact.

"Theres no weak spot on it, what are we going to do Iida?"

"Calm down a bit Uraraka, we'll be fine," Iida told her. "We'll just have to split up its body by about at least six feet."

"That's a lot to cover," Uraraka burst of energy returned. "But we could do it together!"

The monster doll dashed over to Uraraka and she swerved her body to the right, barely avoiding the attack.

Her shadow was then quickly darken, not giving her a time to destroy it and she was trapped. "Uh oh, I'm stuck."

Another stab was launched, this one coming towards her stomach. Iida jumped in front of her, directing the attack away from her by blocking, destroying the shadow afterwards.

A big sigh of relief came out her mouth. "Thank you, Iida."

"No problem, Uraraka," said Iida, as he looked back at the monster. "Now I'll deal with the bottom half while you deal with the top."

Uraraka nodded, giving him a face of determination. "Gotcha Iida, let's do it."

Iida looked back at the monster doll, charging forward, but still focusing on his breathing. "Overhead Overhaul." His left engine turned on, spinning him and causing his sword to be quickly swung above.

That swing, cut off the monster's blade arms, launching them away. Uraraka lighted her gravity, beginning to float into the air.

Next thing gone was the monster's legs, which were slashed by Iida. "Now Uraraka."

The brunette was in the air, starting to control her breathing. "Release." She started to fall towards the ground, her sword held up for her upcoming move. "Gravitational Impact!"

Her blade started to glow pink, as she sliced right in the middle of the monster, causing the two halves to float away from each other, it slowly disintegrating afterwards.

"Exceptional job Uraraka, great use of your slayer skill."

"Thanks Iida." Her face then lit up even more. "I have an idea."

She ran over to him, her arms opened wide, hugging him when close. Iida shortly was levitated into air, raised above the trees. "Perfect Uraraka, thank you."

Now that obstacles were out the way, his eyes focused on the area around him, eventually finding the monster. His gravity eventually returned to normal and he started to fall towards the monster.

Deep breaths were slowly taken as his attention was poured into his move.

The monster looked up with dread in her eyes, her fright over its limit. "He's going to cut my head off, what do I do, what do I do?"

A realization then came into her head, causing that dread to disappear. "Wait, but if I die, I'll be free and I'll find peace."

Her hands were lifted, as she looked up with a look of sadness. Iida flinched at her face, it had genuine depression and took him back into a memory.

Tenya was with his older brother Tensei, who was training his younger brother to prepare him for Final Selection.

“This next move is called Recipro Blessing,” Tensei told him. “It’s a special move that causes little harm to monsters.”

Tenya looked at his brother with confusion. “Why would you create a move like that brother, when they cause us so much suffering.”

Tensei chuckled, and ruffled his little brother’s hair. “I know bro, but most monsters don’t choose to be monsters and regret their actions.”

“Remember that they were once human too, whenever you see a monster with a look of sympathy, use this move.”

Iida regained his concentration, putting it into his move. "Recipro." He slashed through the monsters neck. "Blessing."

Her head slowly fell off her body, but her gloom didn't remain, there was no pain that was felt. As her head slowly fell on the ground, the cherishing in the fact that she was finally free.

She saw the gentle look of Iida, reminding her of someone from her past, that made her feel even more at peace. A smile slowly grew on her lips, as she prepared her information.

"Someone from the League of Kizuki is here." She said as her head disappeared. "Be careful and thank you."

Iida's eyes widened when he heard that, running to her head to get more information but he was too late.

”A member of the League of Kizuki is here, if that’s true we have to regroup, just to make sure everyone is safe.” Iida's head drifted up, hope in his blue eyes. ”Kirishima, Kaminari, Bakugo, and Midoriya…..please be careful.”
