“Well, years later, Peter Pettigrew betrayed Lily Potter and James Potter and he framed your brother for his crimes. Pettigrew then led Voldemort to James and Lily, who killed them. Voldemort then tried to kill their baby. But he failed.”
The Dark Lord, failing to kill a baby? That was blatantly a lie. And Sirius being framed? Unlikely. Clearly, this man was lying. Badly at that. But perhaps he was mentally ill.
Regulus spares the man a pitying look, before deciding this man’s mental illness is most definitely not his problem.
“As if Sirius would let Pettigrew get the best of him,” he scoffs. “He would have gone to Azkaban for what you said. And the Dark Lord, failing to kill a baby? A funny joke. Don’t waste my time.”
“It’s true, I swear.”
“You’re crazy. Leave.”
“The craziest part of this story, Regulus,” the man says. “is that I was that baby.”
“You’re forty.” Regulus says, not missing a beat.
