“I have to tell you something.” Shane says immediately as the door opens and Ilya stops in place, one hand on the knob, the other carrying the groceries he picked up before coming to his boyfriend’s house. 

“Hello, Shane, I have missed you too.” Is what Ilya replies, a smirk on his face as he analyzes the situation and immediately concludes it can’t be a bad thing. Shane is swaying a little on his feet, both of his hands joined in front of him, like a little kid who’s about to confess something mischievous. His ears are a little pink on the edges. “What have you done?” 

“What? Who says I’ve done anything? I haven’t. Here, let me help you.” He rushes forward, collecting the groceries bag and moving towards the kitchen, Ilya following close behind him, amused. “I’ve just missed you, I’ve been waiting for you to arrive so we can catch up.” 

“Yes, catch up. On what, exactly?” Ilya moves to where Shane has been methodically removing everything from the bag and placing them on the counter, and puts a gentle hand on top of his. “Let’s go to the living room first to… Catch up. We can put things away later.” Moving his hand to fully grasp Shane’s, he uses it to pull him towards the living room, sitting on the couch and quickly pulling his boyfriend with him.

They stare at each other for a few seconds, until Ilya breaks and lets out a laugh. 

“What? What is it?” 

“I…” Shane clears his throat and moves, joining his hands on his lap. “I’ve… Hm…” He looks to the side, clearing his throat again, and Ilya waits. “I created a fan account.” Shane blurts out, immediately looking down, feeling the burn on his cheeks. A few seconds pass without another sound, so he peaks up at his boyfriend to find him frowning, face twisted a little to the side in confusion. 

“A… Sorry, what? A fan account?” He asks, and Shane simply nods quietly in reply. “On Instagram? For who? Yourself?” 

“No, Twitter, actually. And… No.” 

“No, what?” 

“It’s for you.” 

“For me? You made it for me?” Ilya points at himself with both index fingers, confused.

“No. I mean, yes. The account is mine, but it is… Hm… Dedicated. To you. Kind of. I guess.” He laughs nervously. “I mean… Not mine, mine, I put it under a fake name, so it’s not really me. Obviously.” 

“Obviously.” Ilya replies dryly, his face blank. “I don’t even know what to ask you.” 

“Let me show you, that’s easier.” Shane gets up, going to the bedroom to retrieve his laptop, opening Twitter on his new account.

One hour later…

“Hello.” Ilya answers the phone while lying in bed, kicking his shoes off. 

“Hi. Sorry about the game.” Shane answers, voice soft. 

“It’s ok.” He shrugs, not wanting to discuss more about the loss, or how hard it feels to be in such a long round of constant losses. The silence in the locker room after the game already hurt enough. He settles under the covers, focusing on Shane’s voice, on his breathing. 

“Are you back at the hotel?” 

“Yes, in bed now.” He replies. 

“Good… Are you okay?” 

“Da. Yes, okay. I was checking Twitter… Interesting posts.” 

“Oh. Well.” Hollander goes quiet, and Rozanov sends him a Face Time request, which is accepted immediately. When the image loads, he can see Shane with the hood of his jacket pulled all the way until it covers his forehead and eyebrows. 

“Nooo. Let me see you.” That makes him laugh, and he pulls the hood off, giving Ilya a better view of his face, lightened only by the bedlamp by his bed. They stare at each other for a few seconds, until Shane breaks and hides his face again. Ilya smiles, his mood lightening at the sight of his boyfriend, all cuddly and comfortable. 

“Shut up.” 

“I say nothing.” Ilya replies, raising his one free hand. “Was cute.” 

“It’s stupid, but it was just…” Shane peeks at the screen, shifting to get more comfortable in bed, lying on his side, the phone propped up on his hand, on top of the pillow. Ilya adjusts himself to lie on his side too. Like this, it almost feels like they’re in bed together, facing each other. Hollander takes a deep breath, and a soft smile appears on his face.  “Even if it was under a fake name, it felt good, just being able to talk about you.” 

“Ah. Adorable.” 

“Shut up. I told you it was stupid.” Shane laughs, shaking his head. 

“I understand. Is not stupid.” Ilya smiles faintly, his eyes shining. “I like to comment about how pretty you are. Is nice. Was a good idea.” 

“Nice to not have to pretend we hate each other’s guts, isn’t it?” 

“Yes. And it’s nice to be able to talk about you with people who admire you and… Understand it, I think.” 

“Nobody’s ever been this poetic about a fucking fan account on Twitter.” Shane rolls his eyes, but there is still a small smile on his face. “It’s fun to interact with you there, even as Jane and Lily.” His voice is teasing, but he is smiling fondly.

“Ah, in every world we are… Wait, what was that word? Comba… Compe…”

“Compatible?” Shane provides, smiling more widely.

“Yes, that.” 

“We really are. But most of the world doesn’t know that.” Hollaner’s eyes darken for a moment, his expression sad. 

“For now, the most important is that we know that.” Ilya replies, his fingers tingling with the need to be around Shane, to touch him, to comfort him. He wants to be next to him so much it physically hurts.

“For now.” He replies, nodding. “I love you.” 

“I love you too.”

“Hey you.” Shane greets when Ilya picks up the Face Time call, two hours after the end of the Centaurs’ game. He’s still on the couch, from where he watched the game, a blanket on his lap and a water bottle balanced between two pillows, next to his thigh. 

“Hi.” Rozanov smiles, settling in bed at his hotel, smiling at the camera. He sighs. “God, I’ve missed you.”

“Me too. How did it go with the filming crew, was it okay?” 

“Yes, they were just following me around for two days, during practices and everything, was a bit annoying but necessary for that documentary.” He shrugs. “I still need to go to a studio to record interview, but the following me around part is done so I can have my phone back.” Ilya smiles. “And talk to you. Finally.”

“Ah, yes. I’ll have to do that too, I think they’re coming for me in two weeks or something.” Shane closes his eyes, dropping his head dramatically on the back of the couch, head tilted upwards. 

“You say it like they’re going there to murder you.”

“They’re coming to film me constantly for two whole days, so same thing!” Hollander waves his free hand, annoyed.

“They’re not so bad. But I’m glad it’s over.” Ilya smiles again, not saying anything else, simply observing as Shane finally opens his eyes again and looks down at him. His smile widens. 

“What?” 

“There’s a rookie on the team. Haas. He reminds me of you a little bit.” At the explanation, Shane’s eyebrows shoot up and he tilts his head, unsure of how to take the comparison. He’s heard of the rookie, of course, it’s hard not to notice him while watching a Centaurs game. The kid has some true hockey skills. 

“Really? Why?”

“Ah. Young. A fire under his ass when he plays hockey, absolute nerd for anything hockey related. Reminds me of you when we first met. He’s really talented.” Shane smiles at that, feeling his cheeks burn at the indirect compliment. “Big yearning eyes.” Ilya teases, pulling the cellphone closer to his face and widening his eyes dramatically.

“Fuck off.” Shane flips him off, letting a laugh escape. He pauses, frowning. “Yearning? Where did you even learn that?” 

“Twitter, such a fun little place.” 

“Ah, yes.” Hollander sighs, pulling the blanket up to his chest. It’s Ilya’s time to frown.

“What’s wrong, why are you sad?” 

“I’m not sad, I just…” He closes his eyes again, willing the tears to not spill, but feeling his eyes burning nonetheless. “I just really fucking miss you. More than usual this week, with the whole not talking for a few days because of that stupid documentary. It’s just… I just miss you, that’s all.” Shane opens his eyes again, and a stubborn tear escapes his left eye, he dries it quickly with the blanket. 

“I miss you too. So much.” Rozanov looks so open and earnest while saying it that it makes Shane’s heart ache. “Six days, yes?”

“Yeah. Just six more days.”
