Voldemort was killed at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, and the darkness was meant to be gone. 6th year was supposed to be a fresh start.
However, with vengeful Death Eaters on the loose, and the stirrings of a plot within Hogwarts, the danger is far from over.

The Hermione detailed here is not entirely canon, I've come to realise - but, I believe she is a reasonable development from her original personality as described in the books by J.K. Rowling. My Hermione is infused with a few more vices than Rowling's, a few more personal demons, but the character I've cultivated interests me, and that's what matters.
