Summary
“Dash Baxter?”
“Here,” said the boy, bored.
Well. It wasn’t as if role call was anything special.
“Rebecca DeLise?” That, at least, was a new name, just transferred in from Spengler High. Lancer looked up to make note of who she was.
“Here.”
“Very good,” said Lancer, eyes dropping back to his list. “Daniel…” He trailed off. They hadn’t taken him off the class list. The district had to wait ten days to drop a student from the roster without paperwork from their new school, but surely there was some kind of regulation or exception for when a student had–

Summary
Somewhere deep down, Danny knew his lies would come back to haunt him, but he could never have anticipated it would end up like this. His dad was in jail, his sister gone, his mom unknowingly under Vlad's thumb, isolated from his friends...
And it was all his fault.

Summary
He brought his attention back to his grading and picked up the top English essay from the pile. As he brought his tea to his lips, he glanced at the name on it.
Danny Fenton.
Huh, speak of the devil. He was taking his first sip when his eyes skimmed across the first line of the paper.
If you’re reading this, then I’m probably dead.
He spat out his tea all over his coffee table.

Summary
The living Danny—maybe playing along, or maybe responding genuinely—raised both hands in a show of harmlessness. Like Lancer truly had him at gunpoint.
Danny Fenton’s wet cold dead body was so heavy in Lancer’s single cradling arm.
“Who are you?” Lancer asked very simply.
And Danny, arms still raised high, let out a sigh deep enough to deflate his shoulders. Whatever light was in his eyes went dull, resigned to an acceptance Lancer could not in the moment understand.
“I am your worst student,” Danny answered. And he lowered one arm exclusively to point. “And THAT is the dead body of my ghost clone.”
-------
Alone on the farthest outskirts of Amity Park, Danny Fenton and Edward Lancer bury the dead body of Danny's clone. It is long and tedious work, and Danny can't dodge Lancer's questions forever. Surely it's only fair of Lancer to demand to know what he has been pulled into. Surely Danny could use someone on his side, now that his evenings are spent burying his clones.

Summary
To Maddie and Jack Fenton, an injured Phantom would usually be a dream come true, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Instead, a few vulnerable words from the ghost boy are enough to turn it into a nightmare, calling their entire worldview into question.
Or: Danny's parents get a front row seat to his latest near-death experience and no one has fun.

Summary
“The GIW… the GIW said primate research.” Jack says quietly, too quietly “They didn’t… didn’t specify non-human primate.” The words fall heavy, sinking into Maddie’s heart like a knife. “It’s not a chimpanzee or rhesus monkey, is it?”

Summary
You know, if anything, he’d always expected the life-shattering injury to be caused by a ghost. Maybe Skulker with his rocket launcher, or a dead giant animal or something, but not… not like this.
He should have expected it, really, but…
He figured that he’d just hoped it wouldn’t have been anyone he cared about. A pity, that fate always screwed him over in the worst possible way.-

Summary
Doctors Jack and Maddie Fenton make a pact; it's a perfectly logical one, albeit emotionally difficult to contemplate.
Neither of them wants to become one of the evil, ectoplasmic monsters they hunt. So, after Maddie brings up the uncomfortable possibility of what if one of them did come back as a ghost, each of them makes a promise: if either of them does, in fact, die and produce a ghost, the other will dutifully eradicate it. Simple as that.
A heartbreaking possibility, but ultimately comforting, Maddie thinks, to know that her husband won't let her become what they hate.
At least, it was comforting, right up until the moment she wakes up outside of her own mangled body, surprisingly mentally sound and intact, only to find herself on the other end of Jack's blaster.
