It was just another Hydra base in the middle of nowhere. Just another round of fucking some of the murder and snark out of Zemo before they'd storm the base and CAPTURE, not KILL the agents in there. Just another little secret under the cover of the trees while Sam and Torres ran reconnaissance.
Until the crows started watching them too intently, there were way too many wolves in the area and the roots started coming up, with intent.

Bucky can't bring himself to hand Zemo over to the Dora Milaje and he has about a million good reasons for that, none of which could ever be enough for the Wakandans coming in to collect the baron. So he has to improvise and Ayo actually offers him a way to keep Zemo out of prison and by Bucky's side. Which sounds great... until it's too late to say no anymore.

Ross is pissed that Zemo blew up the new supersoldiers he was supposed to be getting his hands on and suspects that the former Colonol reactivated EKO Scorpion to use them for the assassination (rather than his unknown ninety-year-old butler), so he tries to get information on them by threatening to omegafy him. Zemo has never betrayed his men and won't start now, no matter what it will cost him.

Summary
Thanks to the Raft's abuse, Zemo is now an omega. But he still hasn't really come to terms with that when his suppressants 'accidentally' fail and he goes into heat - alone with one Bucky Barnes: supersoldier, alpha and entirely fed up with what he believes to be another manipulation. As a consequence, he refuses to slip into the Winter Soldier mindset in order to resist the allure of the omega in heat and takes Zemo.
Aka: It's Ross' fault, but Bucky does the fucking and Zemo has a very bad time.

When Walker hits Zemo with the shield, the baron falls into the shards of the destroyed serum vials, which are still coated in the serum that is also still very much spread everywhere. That way, at least some serum enters Zemo's bloodstream and if that wasn't complicated enough, it reacts with Zemo's secret ancestry and brings out the dragon in him, instincts and body and all.
Aka: 'Zemo' looks so close to the whole, zmey, zmay, zmiy shebang (cognates all meaning the Slavic dragons), so I had to make him a dragon in at least one fic.

Summary
The crest of the House of Zemo is a dragon. That happens in heraldry. Their name, Zemo, is also the Sokovian cognate to the Romanian zmeu, Russian and Bulgarian zmey, Ukranian zmiy, Serbo-Croatian and Slovene zmaj and all the rest. In short, the Zemos are descendants of dragons, who can shape-shift between a human and beast form and who protect their secret powers by breeding only with other dragon descendants, aka close relatives, and proving their children true-born descendants instead of cuckoo bastards by forcing them to transform in a ritual on the night of their first full decade on earth. Additional incest is not required, but it happens.
Aka: This is kind of a prequel to Zmey Zemo, except I finally bit the bullet and (computer-)painted it instead of writing it. (I'm still shit at this, but I decided when I started this bingo that I wanted one entry to be an artpost and I'm too stubborn to chicken out like I probably should. To be fair I literally did most of this in an Open document and then brushed around in it with Gimp a bit. I'm new to Gimp. This is an experiment. And I'm just gonna shut up and hide under a rock now.)
