“I…” Steve started, raising his fists unsteadily.
“I can do this all day,” he huffed, swaying on his feet as the two boys in front of him laughed and nudged each other."Hey!” came a voice from behind them, making both boys turn. “Leave him alone already,” the boy snapped, loud and sharp like a whipcrack.
Steve blinked past them, and there, in the narrow gap between their shoulders, he saw him.
Medium build, probably Steve’s age, maybe a little older. Dark brown hair stuck up from sweat, face smudged with dirt, clothes a little too big and a little too torn at the sleeves. But he didn’t hesitate. There was something sharp in his eyes, not just anger, but purpose.
