“I’ve missed you.” Dan has his arms draped over Phil’s shoulders. They’re still in no rush for the night to end, for the illusion of all this to crack and splinter when they step outside their front door tomorrow.
“Come back to me. Just for tonight.” Phil is almost begging. He’s not sure why. Perhaps it’s the wine, perhaps it’s just how much this year has taken its toll on him. Whatever the reason, he needs to be with Dan. He needs it so much that it hurts a tad. The type of hurt that won't dull until it’s addressed, until it’s taken from him, one deep breath and one chaste kiss at a time.

It has been an awfully long year. One that has left Dan exhausted and taken his brain far away from Phil, who desperately wants Dan to come home to him, even if it's just for one night.

They spent the whole walk holding hands and Dan felt like being thrown back into the year 2009, when every little touch was new and fresh and exciting. Maybe it wasn't so much about coming forward, he thought. Maybe it was more about no longer hiding. They knew that they could trust their viewers that once somebody saw them, news would spread fast.And when they did, Dan and Phil would address it. But for now, they were too busy enjoying being just another one of these couples, walking down the Thamse, holding hands and being stupidly in love. -

It doesn’t matter how much Dan appreciates Phil, appreciates the constant echoes of his footsteps and the soft eyes he looks at Dan with, but Dan hasn’t truly realised how settled he was into a routine of sorts – laugh, kiss, sleep and repeat – until Phil’s away with his family in Florida. And now the bed feels bigger, the flat looks scarier and his heart hurts because there is so many tit bits scattered around the house that just scream Phil.
“I miss you,” Dan admits, pulling at a loose thread of the duvet lying across his lap.
Phil smiles sadly, “I miss you too.”
