Summary
Link learns about his past, his childhood, his heritage. Somehow nobody knows why Link is the only Hylian (no explanation for real?) with the Triforce clearly visible on the back of his hand (come on, Nintendo) living in a treehouse in a small village at the edge of the kingdom. And nobody knows about his family either. OoT Link shares a similar fate, but at least we know his mom took him in care of the Kokiri before she (most likely) passed away. I know, the TP manga has its own plot about this, but I like to share my own fiction, too :D Also some Link/Ilia hints. Or more like obvious stuff. Take it or leave it. I you don't like (or even hate) their „relationship“ (because of her bossy attitude) you should skip that fanfiction.

Saria had been in the Sacred Meadows, her music echoing through the woods, when the sound of footsteps began to join them. The footsteps were not light, like those of the Kokiri, nor did they jingle, like those of the Skull Kids. Rather, they were deep, leaves crunched under their steps, cracking like bones, and Mido knew that he knew his way.

There are tales of a mortal who was once taken in by the Kokiri: a young boy, orphaned and fairyless, who would one day save Hyrule from a terrible evil. Hero of Time, some call him — at least, those who still remember his journey.
Before we knew him as such, however, he was simply a boy called Link. And though he would face much sorrow and hardship later in life, the story behind his name is one filled with wonder, a little chaos, and a generous pinch of cooking.
Or: The Kokiri are given an infant to care for, and he needs a proper name and nourishment. A cooking competition ensues.
