It's leftover stress from childhood needs permanently unaddressed. It's maladaptive, is what it is. Aaron is a rubber band, when he should have been water. He snaps and breaks instead of flows.
At his father's murder trial, Aaron doesn't leave a single thing out. He breaks down on the stand, nine years old and traumatized, while Martin watches and his father yells, and he cries and stutters over what it was like to hear his mother's neck snap as a room full of people watches on.
