Summary
We all know the story: After the Death of Rex Lapis, one of his greatest foes, Osial, Overlord of the Vortex, had reawakened. The Liyue Qixing, the Millelith, the Adepti, and the legendary Outlander banded together to defeat the ancient god in a pitched battle over the Sea of Clouds.
The fact that Liyue's relationship with Snezhnaya soured somewhat afterward may or may not have been coincidental.
But what if there was more to it?
The Fatui is a massive machine with the Harbingers at the controls, their respective underlings cogs and gears responsible for all sorts of tasks both glamorous and menial...mostly menial.
But what if one little gear in particular had the potential for change? Tiny, inconsequential change, the kind you'd barely notice, yet the kind that could ripple through the Bishui River and lead a tidal current into the Sea of Clouds...
After all, amateurs talk tactics, but professionals study logistics.

Summary
Days after Liyue’s battle with Osial, Zhongli walks through his city to witness his people get their lives back in order, all with Childe on his mind and the way he’d betrayed him. He’s convinced the Harbinger has already left his city with a broken spirit. So, when Zhongli finds Childe in the brothel, there’s only one way to get him to forgive him.
“You’re drunk.” -is the first thing that comes out of his mouth.
“Ever a way with words.” Childe sneers, “Bastard. I’m not drunk. Get out.” When Childe sways again, Zhongli takes a step toward him. “Don’t-“ Childe puts a hand up to stop him getting closer, “Seven Archons, don’t.” Then a realization hits him again like a wave even Zhongli can see, “Huh. I can’t believe you. Can’t you leave me alone?”
No.
In fact, Zhongli doesn’t think he can in the slightest. Not now that he’s found the man still in his city. Here. In front of him. And, in a place like this?

“So, you gonna tell me what the sleepwalking’s about?”
Zhongli sighs. “It’s not that I do not wish to share the details of my life with a dear friend. But you might wish you hadn’t asked.”
“Try me,” Childe suggests. “Can’t be any weirder than anything else I’ve learned about you.”
Zhongli snorts softly through his nose, taking a sip of tea. “I believe I am undergoing an old ritual, of sorts. Though I am more human now than ever before, I find myself beholden to certain instincts."
“Oh?” Childe shifts upright, interested. “You mean… dragon stuff.”
Zhongli nods, licking his lips and directing his gaze away from Childe. “I believe,” he says again, the faintest tinge of color creeping over his cheeks, “that I am searching for a mate.”
Zhongli has been sleepwalking through the Liyue streets in the dead of night, unresponsive and with eyes aglow. Childe intends to get to the bottom of the situation, but everything changes when Zhongli reveals the likely motive behind his nightly wanderings.
Childe knows he shouldn't fuck Zhongli in his sleep. He really shouldn't. But when has he ever been sensible?

After Liyue is saved, the tale moves on to heroes and victories. But Childe isn’t a hero. He’s the villain who played a part, and the city won’t let him forget it. Between accusations, whispers, and the Qixing's watchful eyes, he finds himself juggling duty, guilt, and grudges in equal measure.
But Childe endures the whispers and the blades, not for himself, but for the people forced to follow him. He’ll play the part of the monster, the shield, the pawn—anything but the broken man he truly is.
He'll hide his mind from the prying eyes of people who want him dead, he'll mask his feelings from the people who twisted the knife in his back, so he can play the best role he's ever gotten. Even if that role humiliated him and stomped on his pride, he'll play it nevertheless. And he'll play it well.
He must, because he has to leave before he loses his mind.
The story doesn’t end with a happy ever after. Not for villains. Not for Childe.

“I’m not mad at you entirely,” he says, and he sees Zhongli’s face mold itself into something hopeful, and another wave of anger washes over Childe in a dizzying wave. “I’m mad at myself.”
Realization jolts through him. It’s—they—he can’t. It can’t be, and yet it is.
He almost says it. Almost. But he can’t, can’t force the words from his lips, and they die on his tongue.
He realizes Zhongli is waiting for him to say more, and he sighs again. “That’s it, okay? It’s over. We’re over.”
No more lunches at Wanmin. No more evening strolls. No more Childe and Zhongli.
In the wake of Zhongli’s betrayal, Childe struggles to come to terms with the fact that his friendship with Zhongli was a lie.

Summary
Childe takes a deep breath, a steadying breath, and his chest catches. No wonder the secrets hurt so much. No wonder the betrayal cuts so deep. He knows exactly what this is. What he’s feeling. He should’ve expected this. After all those dinners, those shared evenings, the stories told, he should’ve expected this.
Rubbing idly at his chest, he deflates, some of the anger sputtering out into dying embers. Most of it, really. It’s hard to stay angry when you know the truth: that you only feel so hurt and betrayed because you love so deeply.
Love. What a joke.
After the final battle with Osial, Childe and Zhongli find themselves separately facing a similar affliction of the heart.

He stood in front of a large glass tank.
It wasn’t the tank, nor the weird technology surrounding it, that seemed to hold the Harbinger's attention. It was the familiar figure that floated in the center of the tank.
The figure’s arms were wrapped loosely around his knees. His clawed hands were black as obsidian up until his wrists, where metal bands were tightly clasped. A long tail, glittering with brown and golden scales, protruded from the figure’s lower back side, and spiraled under him until the fluffy tip rested at the bottom of the tank.
A set of 4 horns, seemingly made from core lapis itself, extended out the top of his head. All 4 horns came to curled tips, except one, which appeared to have had several inches broken off.“Xiansheng.”

The wind took as much warmth as he could offer and gave nothing in return , leaving behind only a cold vessel. He subconsciously walked to where his journey in Liyue started. To where he met him for the first time.
Or: Tartaglia manoeuvring through life after his friend's betrayal and everything only to find out that said friend made another deal with his Archon, which only complicated everything more and turned his whole world upside down. But surprisingly, the contract proves to be advantageous for him after a particular incident in Fontaine… Hopefully nothing goes downhill, right?
