“You’re probably right,” Techno admitted grimly, letting his eyes wander over to the flickering torch illuminating his midnight papers. It had dimmed considerably, and for a second he considered letting it die. “But I need to have this finished by the banquet next week, and we haven’t even started the actual building process yet.” He leaned down in his chair, rummaging for some coal that he kept in a chest under his desk.
Phil stayed quiet at that. For a moment, the only sounds in the room were the struggle of Techno attempting to find fuel for a torch, said torch dying quietly, and the harsh arctic wind sweeping snow flurries onto the castle from outside.
“Well,” Phil started, his voice tired. “Move over.”

The exhibit was sparse, the empty space highlighting the presence of the valuables. The crown jewels were, obviously, in the center of the room, wrapped in bulletproof glass and spotlights galore. It didn't matter, Technoblade had contingency plans upon contingency plans. He would get out with these jewels one way or another.
Then something collided with his shoulder, and he stumbled to the side, heart racing. What did he miss?
A jovial chuckle drew his attention. Technoblade scowled. Unfortunately, he recognized that smile.
All his contingency plans went out the window. Of all the scenarios Technoblade had planned for, he never dreamed that Philza would be here of all people.

When Techno woke, awareness came slowly. He was groggy, his mind and body unused for far too long.
There wasn't any rush. Still, waking always had him thinking about Phil. About how thankful he was able to stop. To soak in the silence of his mind that normal sleep couldn't ever hope to replicate; the voices melting into a void that was unable to reach him.
He snuffled into the fabric beside him, one of Phil's shirts among many in the nest, and found himself smiling. It wasn't the same one he remembered when he fell asleep. Phil must have rotated them at some point.

Phil cackles as he takes to the air, great wings only narrowly avoiding Techno’s head as he ducks. Phil soars upwards, a blur of black and blue and blond, looping overhead in the pale light of the Antarctic sun, shining like all the riches in the world wished they could. Techno has to squint just to make out his shape.
“Brace yourself!” he hears from above, the only warning he gets before a weight crashes onto his shoulder, wicked talons gripping well worn leather. Phil is still laughing, breathless and mirthful, shifting to best balance on Techno’s arm and shoulder.

He too is covered in metal, though where Techno displays medals, Fit has what can only be decorative armour. He wears the red of his nation well, stark against the natural blues of the Empire.
“Emperors,” he says, bowing his head before taking his place at the table.
“Your Majesty,” Techno replies. He’s always been better at the official talking part of these things than Phil. He, for one, doesn’t swear like a drunken sailor.
