My least favourite part of Ren being a silent protagonist, is how little he fought with Akechi at the end of things.

And even after what Akechi tells him, he knows it's the right thing to do.

Goro gives the question real thought because he never wants to give any less to Ren. “I do feel happy. I enjoy my work and I’m not facing any major stressors. I also have you in my life.” He can see the future stretching out over darts and billiards and chess and drinks. He hopes they can have this forever.
Ren holds his gaze for a few seconds before his expression pinches and shutters and he looks away, sinking Goro’s heart with it.
I said something wrong, he thinks, near frantic. Something is wrong.
