Young Master Wei Wuxian didn't want to get married. With Sect Leader Cangse Sanren deemed as a perfect wife by his sect’s standard, he decided to pick the dullest, most fuddy-duddy candidate to prove how ridiculous the whole idea was.
Second Young Master Lan Wangji didn't want to get married. Knowing what he’d heard about the Yiling Wei Sect, he decided to remain his usual boring, fuddy-duddy self to avoid being chosen.

There was something awful and awkward about seeing your intended spouse after turning them down that Wei Wuxian just didn’t want to deal with. It helped that he went away for university, and that Lan Wangji went away for university, and they happened to both go to different countries. Wei Wuxian liked to think they both wanted to get as far away from the situation as possible.

So why, then, does Wei Wuxian’s heart skip a beat every time he sees Lan Wangji? And why is adult Lan Wangji so hot? It’s not fair that they could be married and instead Wei Wuxian is awkwardly pining for his former betrothed, a boy he once publicly broke it off with without regret.

“Irrationality only gives way to panic and unrest amongst everyone. I chose to keep the symptoms under wraps as best as I could until I could isolate myself,” Lan Qiren explained.
“Your Lan healers couldn’t help?”
At this, Lan Qiren hesitated to answer. Finally, he pried the truth from his lips like pulling teeth.
“The only way to get the mushroom spores to release their hold onto me is to beckon their release from… Sexual release. Let’s not dance around the obvious. I would be digging myself into a hole asking anyone in my sect. I need help, Changze. I need you to fuck me. Please. I’m going insane from the heat,” he begged.
Lan Qiren gets cursed into a mushroom. He sends for help from those he trusts most. Cangse Sanren is preoccupied, so Wei Changze rushes to his aid instead and finds himself in a very particular dilemma.

“A-Niang?”
A sob wrenched its way out of her as she nodded, a hand reaching towards her son’s face, cupping his cold cheek.
“A-Ying.” She whispered, her voice breaking as she saw her husband on the other side of their son, grabbing his hand.
Cangse watched as her son slowly turned his head towards his father with the same look of disbelief as a small smile bloomed across his face.
Then his eyes rolled back and his hands went slack.
