Elora waited until Kit’s footsteps had fully faded into the trees before leaning in, her voice low and dripping with exasperation. "You’re going to spontaneously combust if you keep looking at her like that," she said, flicking a stray ember off her sleeve for emphasis.
Elora exhaled through her nose, slow and deliberate, like Jade was some complicated spell she was trying not to botch. "You could," she said, picking at a loose thread on her tunic, "try *not* looking at her like you want to peel her out of that armor with your teeth." Jade choked on nothing, but Elora plowed on, merciless. "Or—here’s a thought—you could *talk* to her. Wild concept, I know."

The artist who took her most by surprise was Kit Tanthalos. She was famously known in the music industry, continuously topping the charts even long after a release and teasing snippets of songs she was working on that more often than not didn’t get released.
Tanthalos was a well-known name. Her mother was a brilliant actress, and her father was a highly respected director. It was no surprise when Kit joined the music scene, skyrocketing to the top when she released her first single and announced an album soon after.
