“I dunno, flippers?” TK answers.
“Oh!” Carlos says. “Water moccasins.”
“Toad sandals!” Jonah cries, delighted at his own joke.
“Um.” TK says, looking to Carlos in confusion. “Toad sandals?”
“Yess!”
Carlos’s brow furrows and then he lets out a chuckle. “Mijo, do you mean open-toed sandals?”
“Oh yeah,” Jonah giggles.
“Your brother,” Carlos says gleefully, pointing an accusatory finger at TK while he laughs along with Jonah. “Leave it to the two of you to get so distracted laughing at your own joke that you forget the punchline.”

Summary
Carlos made his way to the victim’s bedroom, located down a narrow corridor, across from an equally cramped bathroom. The very first thing he saw after stepping through the doorway was T.K. Strand, slumped in a chair in the corner of the room, drenched in blood.
Carlos’s knees gave out so abruptly that he had to grab for the frame to catch himself before he hit the ground. “No,” he heard himself say, in a voice that didn’t sound anything like him.
(Fifteen months after they broke up, Carlos and T.K. are thrown together again at the scene of a murder.)

“I’m gonna grab an early night,” Carlos says at not long past nine one evening. He’s already in his pajamas, contacts long gone and glasses in their place, but it’s too early to sleep. Usually, they’d stay up for a couple more hours at least, just chatting and watching crappy TV shows they both love, so TK’s heart aches at the thought of missing that tonight.
Then again, it aches at the thought of Carlos being so tired he needs to go to bed already. He hasn’t even had a long day.
“Are you okay?” TK asks, immediately sitting upright.
“I’m fine.” Carlos sends him a too-wide smile. “I have work in the morning.”
“You don’t start till nine.”

They click immediately, and Carlos finds himself feeling things he's never felt before, but the only problem is, they're almost 5000 miles apart. A story of acceptance, friendship, and ultimately, falling in love long-distance style.

“Uh, yeah, dude, obviously,” Nancy says from behind. “What have you done now?”
TK glares at her, slamming the lid of his laptop down before the results have even loaded. “Nothing!” he insists, but he's aware that his whole face is dripping in guilt. It’s obvious. No matter how true his words might be, he looks guilty.
“Dude,” Nancy scoffs. For extra measure, she rolls her eyes and leans on the back of his chair. “Don’t tell me you wanna bang your boss?”
Perhaps his silence says more than anything.
