    It had actually been a long time since Hiccup had thought about how he would die.
    When he was young, every sunrise was another gamble to see if he would get himself eaten by a dragon or somehow manage to fall off one of Berk’s many cliffs.
    Perhaps Winter would finally choose to break his wiry body with illness or he would catch an unfortunate stray battle axe.
    Yet here he was, 21, about to die in the wrong place (not a bad age to reach in the Archipelago when you’re Hiccup Haddock, let's be honest).

    But that was the thing wasn’t it? Hiccup made plenty of marks all in the wrong places.

    What if one of those marks was in the future? On one unsuspecting spirit’s affections?

    For five years, Pitch had been silent, and for five uneventful years Jack had fulfilled his new duty as guardian.

    But a battle, a tree, and a reunion with the boogeyman sends jack spiraling through space and time, to a strange new place filled with even stranger people.

     

    Jack felt a heavy weight on his chest, pressing down, until his limbs felt heavy with lead. His hair was wet, matted with sweat to the side of his brow.

    he would have been content to lay there for a fraction of forever, but a floorboard creaked and his eyes shot open.

    Springing forward for his staff in an iron clad grip; Jack put it between himself, Jamie, and the intruder taking up the doorway.

    Whoever that may be, stopped in his tracks. Lifted his hands in the air and Slowly, as if jack was a wounded animal about to bolt, took a step forward.

    “I’m not going to hurt you…”

    The story of the Dragon Master went like this:

    He appeared five years ago, riding the only known Nightfury alive as of today. He came in the night in armor made of gleaming black scales raiding dragon hunter ships, his face obscured by a matching mask. No one knows the mans true identity, and if they do, they never lived long enough to tell.

    It was rumored that he would bring the dragons he saved back to his island. It remained hidden, a haven for the beasts he rescued. So hidden, in fact, that many believed it lay at the very end of the world; people called it the Edge.

    Rumor has it that he's building a dragon army, so large that he could burn entire islands within minutes and disappear in the same amount of time.

    No one knows who he is, but Jack does.

    The Dragon Master straddled his hips. He gripped Jack’s wrists above his head with one hand, grabbing his sword and bringing it to Jack’s throat.

    “Give me one reason I shouldn’t use this,” He snarled, and Jack recognized that nasally voice anywhere. It couldn't be true; it was impossible. He'd died during the battle with the Red Death five years ago, and yet...

    “Hiccup?"

    Jack Frost thought he knew who he was, a protector of the children and the Guardian of Fun. However, a little mishap and a chance meeting with a Dis had everything he thought he knew thrown out of perspective. Now, not only does he have to deal with finding out what has happened to him while finding a way home, but he is also having to deal with learning about who he had been; who Jackson Overland had been. On top of all that, he had to do everything while trying to go unnoticed by the Vikings and have you ever meet him? Subtlety was not a quality he possessed.

    Oh, and did he mention the dragons? Because there were dragons.
