One good thing, Alex thinks. He tries to remember anything specific about the day other than his tour and the crash. “One good thing,” he repeats, “the water pressure in the hotel shower is perfect. One bad thing- I crashed my bike on the way to the campus tour.” He leaves out the part where he crashed into someone’s car.

Summary
Bea tells him he’s lonely in the city, without her or Pez around. He argues back that he’s alone, not lonely. Alone means he has time and space to think. Lonely, on the other hand, is an effect, an all-encompassing melancholy which Henry certainly doesn’t experience; he has the children and staff at the music studio, and sometimes Pez visits from Oxford. And of course he has David, who does accompany him when it doesn’t interrupt the dog’s nap schedule. On these walks, Henry is alone, not lonely.
