Summary
There are countless worlds in which Derek and Avery never meet.
Countless others in which one of them dies.
Somehow, they ended up in this one.
A world where Avery is made out of slime, Derek has an eldritch god stuck somewhere inside his brain, and the nearest civilization happened to have a very similar relationship with The King in Yellow that Derek swears he had seen before.
When the two are introduced to Ianius, Able, and Father Abraham, surviving begins to look less like an accident.
Or: What if the King in Yellow, as a last desperate act of not dying, moved Avery and Derek to a different universe, where he hadn't yet failed with his past Vessel. Now they have to survive what awaits them in the all-too-familiar village, navigate their developing feelings for each other, and pray they don’t become part of the history they already know far too well.

D3rlord3’s King-induced-migraines usually go away after a couple of rounds with Avery.
Until they don’t.
“If you split, could The King possess the other?” Derlord pressed on with the voice he always used when he got hopelessly curious. “The empty one?”
“I mean… yeah. Probably?” Avery's frown deepened somewhat. It was a very valid question; that didn’t mean he liked the implication. “But why would you want him to have a body instead of a second me?”
The sight of a plotting grin caused Avery to retract by a fraction. Derlord leaned in closer, not letting him get away. “Because if he’s in the clone…” he said quietly, as if sharing a secret he didn’t want anyone to overhear. “I won’t get migraines anymore.”
Avery is glad that there’s a solution. He only wishes that it didn't have to come with a grumpy eldritch roommate.

Summary
Avery slammed his heel on his good hand. By reflex he tried to pull away, but then he pointed his blade at his throat.
It was here, in their traditional sparring matches, that decided the winner. This had been such a wonderful fight. Anticipatory heat pooled low in his gut.
Avery always fought well, but today especially he was in his element. He looked so good in the sun, all breathless from the exertion. Being matted in red blood was new, but it was well-fought and he decided he liked how it marred his armor and clothes underneath and dyed his bare hands.

(Or: Derek and Avery developed a habit of having sex after sparring in their private world. It was inevitable that eventually, while accompanying Avery to Hypixel for a skywars game, Derek forgets they're not alone and gets way too excited when he's left facing Avery one-on-one. Avery drags him back home and they fuck.)
