Even Ilya fucking Rozanov was going to know Shane was okay before the girl Shane had been seeing for years. Hayden couldn’t let that happen. So he lifted Shane’s phone again, scrolled through his contacts, and found Lily’s name. The line began to ring.
Rozanov stiffened where he stood at the hospital counter, then he pulled out his phone. Weird.

High on pain meds after his injury, Shane entrusts his phone to Hayden to answer his texts and tell everyone he's okay. Hayden realizes that no one else would have called Lily, because no one else knows she even exists.

Shane groaned. “Stop saying that, oh my God!”
“What? Is not true?”
“You two. You’re like- together?” Drapeau asked, his eyes flickering between the two of them.
“Christ, I’m gonna be sick.” Hayden said faintly.
Shane’s head reared back and Rozanov immediately stood. “Then fucking leave, Pike.”
Hayden realised what he’d said and held his hands up, a look of panic on his face. “No. No, I didn’t mean- Shane I’m fine with you being gay, I swear-“
Rozanov rolled his eyes. “Someone give this man a medal-“

Summary
“Shane?” Ilya asks again. “What happened?” His gloveless hand twitches and he lifts it a fraction of an inch towards Shane.
Shane tosses his own gloves to the ice and reaches forward, lacing their fingers together. “You took a bad hit,” he says, gritting his teeth against the fear clawing at his guts. “Flipped headfirst into the ice. Are you okay?”
Ilya groans in answer and squeezes his hand, though Shane can't tell if he meant to do that or not.
Suddenly, there are people all around them. Shane shifts protectively close before he realizes it’s the medical team.
“Hollander, get back to your bench,” someone says, but there’s no way Shane’s going. Even if he wanted to, Ilya’s gripping his hand like a lifeline, eyes finally locked on Shane’s face. Shane isn’t leaving him.

Summary
“No, Ilya, stay.” The last word came out as a whine.
“Why is he calling you Ilya?” Pike asked.
"Why is he asking you to stay?” Hollander’s mom followed.
Ilya shrugged. “How would I know?”
Hollander lifted his arm out, as if reaching for Ilya. “Because I want him to stay.” It was said in a tone that seemed to say, 'obviously'.
“Shane,” Hollander’s dad started. “Um- what’s going on? I thought we hated Rozanov.” He seemed to realise what he’d said and glanced at Ilya. “Sorry.”
“Is fine.”
"No, I don't hate him. I love him."
Cliff's jaw was firmly hanging open, and he didn't think it was going to move anytime today. He felt as if he'd been punched in the stomach, all the air ripped away from his lungs.
"Am I dreaming?" Cliff muttered to himself.
Pike let out a strained laugh. "I think someone spiked my coffee this morning."
(cliff, ilya, hayden & shane's parents visit shane in hospital after the incident. a very drugged up shane cannot hide his feelings for ilya)
